Hi John and others the sardine tin is inside acting like a traditional resonator cone like in a National guitar.
It sits on a little frame inside the box all very simple.

Yes Jim, I can now tell a potential buyer that you can buy this cigar box uke with a sardine tin resonator and a black bean neck a rare combination sounds like it should come with some dipping sauce :)
Shall post some pics when its ready.
Not found off bone dust smell for either.

Thanks for the input folks. Tallow seems a good possibility from the information posted and what I googled. Has a waxy feel about it to some extent clogs up sand paper very quick. Tallow not a name that grabs me being a vegetarian. Soaked some shavings in a class jar of water no change in the water ...

Luke, does it have prominent rays on the narrow face where the rings come through at 90degrees? ie the quartersawn face? Do the fresh chips smell slightly like vinegar? Hi folks, Can some one give this timber a name. I found it at the local salvage yard it was once a cabinet frame of some sort. I have recycled some into a couple of ukulele necks and happy with out come. The timber is very aromatic a powerful scent and have to cover up use a dust mask etc as it is a...

Hi Markus, The tail piece is out of the fire not the top. The top is just simple 3 ply have used some red and black stain to give it a sunburst kinda look. The back is an actual Hub cap of a Holden car possibly an EJ or EH model circa 1962-65? chrome plated steel. Holden is the Aussie GM made car. T...

Thanks folks for kind words. Liam the tail piece is copper I tried to give it the ye old fashion look by hitting with the hammer a lot than I make a little fire from scrap timber and throw it in let it cool in the ashes, comes out with look you see. Currently working on some more quirky instruments ...

Thanks for those ideas, a skateboard that is also an instrument I can see a market for that :idea: You don't see skateboards around these days not in my area they must be due for a come back like yo-yo's etc.

I have used Tassie Oak / Vic Ash there similar I think Peter on necks for my odd ball instruments so the recommendation is not from a serious artisan.
