Re: Stiffness of X bracing

Hi Dominic, I'm Not a Technical Person by Nature , But I'll put In Lamans terms and see if I get your point , at the Piont that the two Braces intersect at the X there is a halving joint , so at that Point the two braces become one, not just as a Joint , but also as the total width and thickness are...

Re: Big Boy sanders and fingers don't mix

Hi,

I love my little jet sander 10/20 , the best money I ever spent , My mate has the carbatec one , And I'm not so fussed on it , the feed belt is not as god , and I find the Jet a lot easier to adjust so you get even thickness across the width.

Hi Johnathon , Do yourself a Favour , go to the palns section of the board index and follow the link I have posted to Ultimate guitar plans , they are the best plans going I think , for a few Paypal Bucks you can download a set of classical plans with a pretty good set of instructions included for a...

Re: Dehumidification / Dry Room .

Hi All , Thanks for your Input , I know Trevor recommends 3x3 but I just can't fit that in it's nearly 30% of my shed , My shed is lined and insulated , sorta too big to be dehumidified and kinda too small for a Dry room, If I make one I'll make it out of 50mm freezer Panel, just means trashing half...

Dehumidification / Dry Room .

Hi All , I'll seek your collective wisdom for my problem , I have a workshop that's about 6 X 5.4 m And I use all of it , I have been agonising about my choices in Regards to humidity control , I have toyed with the Idea of a Dry room of about 1.8 x 1.8 m , that takes a far chunk out of my shed and ...

Re: Falcate Bracing - Glues/Resin clarification

Thanks for the Clarification Trevor,

It was more of a perceived issue on my part than a problem that had occurred , So I'll take that onboard for my next build.

Cheers,

Paul.

Re: Falcate Bracing - Glues/Resin clarification

Hi Trevor, This All the CF work on the soundboard is done with resin (and I might have used the term "glued down" rather than "resined down"). If you use "glue", with its extra viscosity, it will carry out the CF with the squeeze-out as you clamp. So again, pretty much as you said. brings up a Point...

Re: Humidity

I don't have a dry room , the shortest time I have left it in the shed to stabalize was 4 day's at 45 - 48 % and that made me a little nervous, and I have a logging function on my hygrometer, so you need to be sure you've had , I think at least , bare minimum 4 day's below 50 % to be safe . I waited...

I'm Impressed craig , I've often thought of taking the Bunnings challenge , and seeing if i can make a half decent instrument out of only what I can Find at Bunnings , even thought about merbau for the fret board. I think you've just proved that for UKe's at least, you can make use of what you can g...

But Stings and beyond IMHO are hard to beet.

Re: Wood species for Falcate braces

Hi Colin , I would give it a Go, the worst that will happen is you will waste a bit of Spruce , as Trevor said It either will or it won't , The peice of Spruce i have been using is perhaps a nice compliant peice , just bend it as you would any other timbers , a bit of heat and moisture , as long as ...
