Re: Spraying Hard Shellac
I had issues with french polish on an early build which I suspect was due to the rubber mat I had under the guitar. I suspected the mat after reading comments either in here or in GAL magazine. Silicon is often used in spray on release agent used in molds. So Martin is this a fact about the non slip...

Is it just me or do the braces on that Cole Clark look pretty rough. Looks like they've come straight off a band saw and been plonked on to the top.

If you're gluing metal to wood then epoxy will be required. You might have got the Titebond to hold but it wont hold for long.

Nice work Nigel.
I got sick of the blankets and forms and have gone back to bending my sides on an iron. Nothing beats having the swear job full and a nice set of fresh burns on your arms after a bending session.

Re: Spraying Hard Shellac
Another potential source of contamination is some of the non slip mates that people seem to love. Some of the mats are contaminated with the silicone mold release used during their manufacture. Hi, I haven't sprayed hard shellac, but generally the causes of these craters and fisheyes will be somethi...

Great. Chris gave excellent service while at LMI. I once ordered a bunch of dishes and the wrong sizes got delivered. Chris said to keep the dishes and he'd send the correct ones.

Re: Bowl back mandolin
Thanks for that Martin. Don't have a classical style bending iron. Don't think I'd be permitted to lay out the readies to buy one. Could get the grandson to fabricate a Turkish type. Out of interest, would steam bending be delitirious to the finished instrument? Mind, the ribs would be well dried b...

Re: Bowl back mandolin
Steam bending isn't necessary unless the wood you're bending is thick and won't yield on a bending iron with a spritz of water. I assume you're laying up rib sections over an internal mould as you'd do for a lute? The rib sections will only need to be around 2-3mm thick to be able to be bent on an i...

Hi, yes I was thinking the same thing, I haven’t opened one of those emails for a month. I wait till I need something. Back in the day I remember I used to enjoy getting their paper catalog in the mail. Taff Ive still one of those huge folders chock full of info that Allied Lutherie used to send you.
