You could try scrubbing with deck cleaner/oxalic acid.
I’d definitely do a test piece first.
I’ve used this before to get mineral staining out of Blackwood.

Re: Qld maple?
Over the years I’ve had QLD Maple ranging from hard to so soft I didn’t feel comfortable using it.
I wouldn’t be surprised if you found some that light.

Re: Truss Rod Channel
Board is “Pale Moon”, it’s not the most ideal fingerboard timber and so many customers insist on it against my advice, however at the same time it’s not so bad that I’ll refuse to use it. As long as the customer knows it’s not as stiff/stable as rosewood or ebony and their neck will move around a li...

Re: Truss Rod Channel
https://youtu.be/trSIZqlzkBA Scroll to 7:50 and you’ll see exactly how I’ve been doing it for years. Never had a problem with rods binding up. In fact having a bit of glue deep in is a good thing as it’ll help close up any space! Key to this though, in the clip you’ll see me use silicone at each end...

Re: What difference lacquer makes to sound
So given that different lacquers will have different effects on the sound how on earth do you engineer the soundboard to compensate. Experience tells us that a 1% difference in structure can separate a great guitar from a good guitar. Do you knowingly over thin the top or under build the braces in ...

Reading some of the posts here it’s safe to say most people here are taking WAY too long. I wonder if many people would be interested if I offered a once off private neck carving workshop? I'm all for that...as long as the fee includes beer and a barbeque  If you’d seen what my BBQ looks l...

Re: Engraving a pickguard
I was looking at this https://www.stewmac.com/Materials_and_Supplies/Pickguard_Materials/Acoustic_Pickguard_Blanks.html What material do you normally use Allan? I checked the link and you’re spot on, it really is that thin! I guess now I think about it an acoustic pickguard should be super thin to ...

Re: Engraving a pickguard
Can you link to the product you’re talking about? I can’t imagine any pickguard material only half a mm thick. Most hand engraving is done with a tool that is simply a metal spike, there are different shaped and angled spikes and you simply drag them across the surface. Me personally, I don’t have t...

Re: maton square head truss rod adjuster
Just measured and checked the maton supplied tool, its actually a 7mm 12 point socket EDIT: Nevermind, I just found a 5/16” that works a treat Old thread bump: I just bought a long neck 7mm twelve point socket and it doesn’t fit! Seems to be too small. I can’t test any of my normal sockets as they’...

Re: Alternative to a Stewmac buffer
Even if I wanted to spend that amount I would not buy the stewmac buffer! I use a handheld 3” buffer and 3M pads. You can spend several hundred at an auto store or buy one on eBay for under $100. You will also want some sort of gauge to reduce the air pressure to slow the buffer right down. Alternat...

P.S. We’ve all had bad router days. I myself have had many. Luckily it’s always only been timber damaged and not flesh.

Re: Acacia dread build thread
Thanks Trent.
It might be my last build for a while as I’m going to be taking a break, so it’s been good to do a build thread for something different.
I hope at least one person got something from it.

Re: problems spraying poly
Without seeing it in person or without even seeing photos it’s hard to imagine what you mean by crators, are you talking about solvent pops? It could be anything from contamination to bad mixing (stir minimum 100x alternating left and right every 20x) to poor spraying technique. In my acacia build t...

Re: Twisted Ringed Gidgee
I’ve heard people say Gidgee boards create a dull guitar and I call bullshit on that. I’ve made two comparison builds with same specs inside the box and consecutive cut cedar tops, one had Rosewood back/sides with ebony board, the comparison guitar has Gidgee back/sides with Gidgee board and I like ...

The guitar looks amazing Allen! Beautiful timber combination styling and wonderful character. Now that the guitar is more settled in with the new strings do you have any more recent sound samples available. It be great to hear a sample of this guitar.
