Brisbane humidity
Hi brains trust.... I'm hoping to get some ideas for humidity control /dry room options for a pretty small workshop space. I see there have been a few discussions in the past but I'm still a bit foggy on how they work in practice or would work in my workspace. Some photos would be wonderful! - Is a ...

Very nice Alan, that's a beautiful and warm sounding guitar. Just the sound I like. That's quite a history for that guitar, and it's better than ever today.

Yes happy holidays to everyone too and a big thanks to Martin and Jeremy. Looking forward to seeing what everyone builds in 2020. Not to mention learning new things from all the helpful videos here. We are house hunting in brisbane at the moment and my key stipulation is that there must be a suitabl...

Re: packaging tape for binding
The lmii or stewmac tape is the best. If I run out I just make up some doubled strips of masking tape to give it a bit more strength when installing.

Re: Indian Rosewood Sanding issue
Haven't tried the old angling the wood trick, but that sounds like great advice. I've had the clogging problem with one set of Indian before, for whatever reason, but the sander has been fine with all other sets. I ended up handplaning it to thickness and just running it through for the last pass. I...

Thanks Martin. no, haven't put any of my guitars up for sale yet. I *might* have my first commission though ..a muso friend seems pretty keen on a classical build.

Qld maple?
hi folks
Found some nice timber locally which I think is Qld maple. but when I cut it up and measured it ... It is only 460kg/M3.
It looks like Qld maple to me, but also seems very light? Have you come across maple that light before? Could it be something else?

Re: Flamenco guitar
Thanks guys Kpcart - the depth is 90mm and 95mm... What is usual for flamencos? Yes ebony bindings and yes did have to make a couple extra! Worth it though... I love the look of ebony bindings. For the purflings I had to handcut the last few mm for the with a gramil as my router bearing wasn't small...

Flamenco guitar
Flamenco guitar... Fe17 shape, Santos bracing. It was quite challenging to get the action and bridge to the right height, but got there in the end. Still largely 'in the white'. No finish on back, sides or neck yet, just some super glue on the back and sides to fill pores. One coat of osmo on the so...

Re: Side bend question...
Any mahogany I have used (mainly Khaya) has bent very easily. I would advise you to make a bunch of sides from any kind of mahogany you can get your hands on. Thickness to between 1.8 and 2.2 mm and bent a bunch of sides. Thinnner is easier. In Europe one seller gets rid of reject wood this way. So...

Re: Rope bindings advice please
i suspect u are after bindings and not purflings... but if purflings, u should be able to get them on ebay. if u type or copy:
25Strip Luthier purfling Binding Marquetry Inlay Wood inlaid 880x1.5x1.5mm #91
into google then it should pop up.

Re: Best Concert Ukulele
Hard to go wrong with an all koa ukulele from any of the K brands and HMS is a good business to deal with. Be aware, you will need to pay duties if over AUD$1000 including shipping (or they used to be the rules... they may have changed more recently) - this can add up if it is charged - another 20 p...

Re: Fret seating problem
I had some trouble with an ebony board on the last guitar. I cut the slots a couple of days before hammering in frets and they wouldnt go in when I got to the job. I had to recut again just before hammering them in (but they stayed ok after that). So perhaps the precut board u bought closed up a bit...

Beautiful guitars! That negra is stunning in particular, but all are great. I like the colours of the red cedar neck against the cypress.... the shape of that first headstock .. very nice!

Noting your obvious building skill, I suspect another reason it turned out well is the Engelmann - it is super stuff for classicals!
I have a few different spruces in the stash but keep reaching for the Engelmann....
