Re: Bandsaw recommendations

I am just about to buy the Laguna 14BX. Just waiting on stock to arrive at Carbatec. I have been using the Laguna 14CE at the school's workshop for the last five years and would buy that model except I like the brake and have convinced myself the extra horses and one-piece frame is worth the extra $$.

Maple & Red Spruce OM - Beach guitar

During one of the lockdowns recently, I was organising guitar cases when I stumbled across this OM I had 95% finished a few years ago. I built it trying a couple of things out, not all of them successfully and had put it away in frustration after the fourth time I had veneered the arm bevel. After p...

Re: Finding the High Points

Hi all, This is a fairly basic beginners question I think- I'm just starting to assemble the neck to the body via a mortise & tenon joint on my guitar build & I need some means of determining high points in the joint. Online info seems to use "chalk" for this purpose but it seems to me that since t...

Re: Sitka & blackwood OM 14fret falcate

I have a couple of questions about the pinless bridge. First is the bridge laminated with CF? Secondly, is there any additional securing of the bridge to the plate beyond the glue (what glue?)? Hi Bernie, no the bridge doesn't have CF, it is a nice light piece of blackwood that I ebonized with stee...

Re: Tonewood in Alaska?

I'm heading to Alaska for work. Does anyone know of some reputable tonewood suppliers up that way? I might be able to bring back a small package of top sets for my future humble building efforts. Ohhhh travel. How exotic! I would love to go to Prince Whales Is and met Brent and his crew and see the...

Re: Vacuum clamping bridges

We use a venturi valve with an air compressor at the BNE school, the air compressor is in another room but the valve still hisses. I cannot imagine going back to clamps. Mind you, bridge glue-up is with HHG and we only clamp for an hour and then not strung up for at least 24 hours. How long are you ...

Re: Pore filling methods question (non-epoxy preferred)

I do find aqua coat takes a few coats and I usually do a shellac seal coat in between aqua coats. But I like the non-toxic nature, no fumes and how quick it sets, about 30mins. I find you really need to push across the grain, if you go with the grain, you pull it out. I normally use a wadded cloth t...

Re: Finger pressure

Well, I don’t know how valid this experimental method is - but I just got a digital kitchen scale and held it like a guitar neck, and pressed down with a finger of my left hand about the same amount that I would to fret a note, and did it about a dozen times, and the pressure consistently registere...
