Re: Woodcarver vs. Lancelot

I've used the mini Arbortech but seem to have forgotten about it the past year or two. That new one that Peter C. uses looks interesting, maybe less risky?

Re: 16 inch Florentine archtop.

I Look forward to watching your progress on this one Rod as I would love to build an archtop too. I like the 16" and Florentine style. I'm thinking of sheoak back and sides for mine.
Lots of photos please.

Re: Finishing over unknown finish

Alan, poly finish has been around for quite a while now; I've got a 70's Strat which has a poly finish. If in doubt seal with shellac?

Re: Stew Mac & Water based finishes

Would it be possible to use an intermediary in the US to post you the Target products? I was only talking about this with someone last week. There's a company called 'Bongo' (and I'm sure there will be others) who will act as your US 'address'. I haven't looked into it myself yet so can't comment on...

Yes, so sad about Jack Bruce. He was a great inspiration during my youth and I did get to see and meet him in our mutual hometown, Glasgow.

Re: Police

Reminds me of one time I was going poaching with my brother and cousin on the outskirts of Glasgow: We enjoyed some light relief (quite a lot actually) at a local pub while we waited for darkness, and for the game-keeper to "relax". It doesn't get dark till late in Scotland, in summer. Anyway we hea...

Re: Binding glue

Don't know where you are Pat, and I hope you have more choice than me. Stewart MacDonald suggest Weld-On 16 which I did use before with good results. However the only place I can find it now in Perth (Mulford Plastics) want a minimum order of about $80 so I tried a few other things and I now use Pac...

I saw a report somewhere last year about Bob Taylor buying a Cameroon ebony mill with the intention of using and promoting/supplying all the usable ebony harvested regardless of the colour.

If you really want a black wood binding, you could easily stain something, eg,........... anything! Maple bends easily with heat.

The Billion modem range have always been rock solid for me and many others Bob. Have a look at Warcom to see if any ring ur bell. http://www.warcom.com.au/shop/browse/adsl-modem-router/Billion/ Cheers Kim I agree. I changed to Billion after continually struggling with Westnet's BOB2. The Bob2 was c...

Re: How come Amercia can freely sell brazilian rosewood

I got some BRW from a yard in Melbourne in '91. Can't remember the name of the supplier since I was staying at a mate's place who happened to be a cabinet-maker and took me round all the good woody places. Anyway, for some reason I stored it in the roof of my home but didn't retrieve it after my mar...

Re: Scraper Burnisher

This is an issue I've struggled with for years. I did buy the Veritas burnisher but never got good results with it. My wife's uncle runs a 10mm dill bit along the scraper. I tried this today but haven't used it yet; waiting for the binding glue to set on a Tele. Hope to give it a go tomorrow.

Re: Are there any guitar builders close to Palmerston North,

Hi Richard. Regarding the dishes I used an orbital sander on 17mm ply. Went a little deeper than I should've and filled it with a thin gyprock base coat mixed with a bit of Bondcrete then carefully sanded again to correct(ish) contour, and sealed with diluted Bondcrete. Just stuff I have lying aroun...

Re: Are there any guitar builders close to Palmerston North,

Hi Richard, I've recently completed my first acoustic build, and I used the Kinkead book, and I believe that other members of this forum have also been inspired by his book. I'm very happy with the result. I'm too far away to duck round with my OM, though I'm happy to email you any pics. I also went...
