I'll never understand why more programmers don't use the mouse scroll wheel to vary the frequency.

Re: Stew Mac Binding Jig
Haven't posted here in a while, but here goes. Here's the jig I use, similar to the SM one, shop-made from a parts list that Lillian put up here a few years ago. For the carriage, I made some large knobs, visible under the guitar, using T-nudts, partly for the extra torque I can get on them, and par...

Re: Buffing
Hiya, folks down under! Been a while!
I just got the new SM buffer and couldn't be happier, though my pocket book is feeling a little depleted. I put a v-link belt on it and it got even smoother.

Re: Chladni testing...first steps
Hi, folks. Haven't posted in a while, but I thought I might contribute something here. The problem with getting rid of glitter is that most of what's available is chopped up mylar or something similar, and it holds a static charge. If you can find the old metallic stuff, aluminum I think, it's a lot...

Re: Bridge/Scale length
I lurk around these parts sometimes, and once in a while I have something to contribute. I guess this is one of those times! I use laser levels a couple ways. Clipped to a shelf above the workbench, with the laser beaming straight down, I use it sometimes to do a rough check the neck alignment with ...

Rod,
I don't post here much, just manage to drop in once in a while. I just came across your thread. Great story, great guitar!
Pat
P. S. Ron Wisdom, there's a flash from the past. Good to see your post!

Re: Does bracing need to be quarter sawn?
How are all you folks doin'? Been awhile. Another reason to go quarter-sawn is that it's less prone to splitting out at the tapers Flat-sawn would split more easily between the grain lines, I believe. Yep, good tip on the tape when carving brace ends! I've also been looking for a shallow gouge for t...

I love those little guits! I keep one on a stand next to the couch. Easy to slouch and play.

Re: A tool I like
That's a really nice example, Clancy. I too like using hand tools. While you can't dispute the speed and accuracy of a lot of power tools, they don't give the satisfaction of a well-tuned hand tool, for me anyway. Watching a spray of dust come off a sander just doesn't compare to a paper-thin shavin...

Lillian,
That's too bad. I hear quite a few folks got flooded over there. Take a break, breathe deep. Hope to see you back at it soon.

Re: How Do You Re-Affix a K&K Pickup?
We're thinking liquid CA would be too messy and we'd run the risk of permanently glueing a fingertip to the guitar in the process . Slip on a pair of disposable latex gloves while working with the CA if youre worried about gluing yourself to the bridge plate. Then you'll only glue a glove to ...

Bob, That's some gorgeous zoot! I just finished up a repair on a plywood cheapo dread for a friend who is pretty broke. It was bellying up pretty badly, and caving near the soundhole. Split bridge plate, separated x-brace, peeling bridge, the works. Got it all patched up, put in a JLD Bridge system ...

Very interesting thread. One thing that's been left out is that Ervin did include a bibliography, FWIW. There is a strong tendency among early years luthiers...and I'd put that at those up to 5 to 10 years experience...to want a magic formula ....... Used to see that in photography, people looking f...
