No price on their website (http://www.gregmach.com/Machinery/Bandsaws/LT14SUV.html) & the server for their online store is down.

Re: Router?

Carbatec's 14-inch Bandsaws have always confused me.
The more expensive CTJ-3501 is classed as the "Heavy Duty" unit.
But the BAS-350B has cast iron wheels and a stronger motor.
What makes the expensive one heavy duty???

Nice one again Allen. Your output is relentless!
Your heel shape has changed again also. Just trying this out or is it a keeper?

That is a good idea.
I modified mine to fit a Makita Laminate Trimmer but prefer your quieter approach. :cl

Re: Stinky case

I've had the valencia classical case for about 3 years. Every now & then I forget how bad the smell is and go to put the zouk in it (I try to rotate my 'on hand' instrument every couple of months'). The smell is still toxic. Have considered trying baking soda or charcoal to remove the smell but am a...

Stinky case

Have received a number of cases lately that really pong! Got 4 uke hard cases and 2 are fine while 2 have an unpleasant smell. A classical case I got for the zouk is so bad I won't keep the instrument in it anymore! Tried leaving that one open in the sun for 2 weeks - failed to make an impact on the...

Re: The Improved Rosette Cutter

I used to use firefox but I kept coming up against sites that I could only log into with IE.
But this is all off topic so I'll end it here and we can get back to the things that are important - like the workshop!
I've got a perspex rosette template to make. :D

Re: The Improved Rosette Cutter

Thanks Michael & Allen. So, again, the same line is used for both the edge of the rosette inlay and the edge of the rosette channel. Btw Allen, I have trouble veiwing your new website layout. The title banner/menu on the top of each page overlays the beginning of each page. Here's a snapshot... Alle...

Re: The Improved Rosette Cutter

Those who know me personally know that I like to build with hand powered tools as much as possible. I don't have a thickness sander, I plane to thickness all my tops, backs, sides, overlays, rosettes, etc. I even plane my truss rod channels! But two jobs always require me to use power tools to get a...

Re: Plastic Binding Gaps

I've already scraped the bindings flush, but in preparation for the finish I sand the top, back & sides up to around 300 grit.
This is when the bindings have gotten scratched.
I'll have to try lightly re-scraping the bindings after I've sanded.
What a PITA this plastic stuff is.

Re: Plastic Binding Gaps

So I sorted the gaps. On the top & back joins I drizzled WeldOn in to the gap, gave it a minute to melt the binding a bit, then forced the gap closed & taped. On the sides I filled the gaps with ebony dust & CA. Now onto the next new experience with plastic - to what degree do you sand them? I have ...

Re: Plastic Binding Gaps

Thanks everyone. Much appreciated. As I said, I have always used wooden bindings, and have successfully filled gaps (in the early years) but now use hide glue & simply re-heat & re-work the area of 'non-conformity' :D But this is the first time I've used plastic binding (apart from f-holes) Somehow ...

Plastic Binding Gaps

Never used plastic binding before. Normally use wood & hide glue! Wish I did this time too. So what's the best way to deal with gaps in plastic binding? In this case it's black so should I.... ...fill the gaps with ebony dust & CA? ...fill the gaps with plastic filings & melt with acetone? ...use mo...

Re: A K&K Pickup on a Ukulele Story

On a spruce topped instrument, wouldn't attatching the pads directly to the soundboard with CA risk a stain appearing on the outside?
Perhaps another reason for using the supplied tape.
