Re: New Luthier's Forum - LuthierforumAustraliaNewZealand.co

Oh, I shouldn't bother, but for the sake of anyone that gloogles AFLNZ LMFAO or luthierforumaustralianewzealand, they should find this thread first. Ironic that Kim (and I) caught Mario breaking into the private message system at Mario's forum - then he lied when confronted about it, then "banned u...

Hey Rob I had assumed you had already discounted BRW which is why I suggested cocobolo. BRW with that kind of spider webbing or landscape figure is the grail 8) .

Re: When buying machines from China

Jeez Steve, sorry to hear of the problems mate Have you tried contacting Alibaba?? They are quite a large concern and you would hope they would be concerned about their site being used to exploit people. I really do hope you have a good outcome in the end because you really do put helping others fir...

Re: what wood ??

Oh, just clicked. If you were asking if cocobolo and ziracote are related? No...ziracote is a cordia. A close relative of ziracote from Mexico that also happens to have a very interesting grain patten is Bocote.

Re: what wood ??

Are they related ? and are they banned timbers for import ? I don't think cocobolo has made cat 1 of CITES yet Rob but last I heard it was looking to head that way. I think the two are botanically related and, like so often happens in the plant world, the genetic separation is possibly the result o...

Re: what wood ??

Dead ringer for Mexican Cocobolo I reckon Rob. In that form it is sometimes called 'Landscape' Cocobolo. Here's a pic I stole from the net of some Mexican Cocobolo fretboards http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0286/1178/products/coa2fb.jpg?v=1383579011 Generally, 'Nicaraguan' Cocobolo has straighter g...

Re: Australia misses out on Mario's wood

I forgot completely about your problems related to buying from Mario :( All the best Dave Thanks Dave But I do need to point out that it's not just 'my' problems dealing with the bloke, AFAIAC that's done and dusted, I just won't buy from him again. But other people, particularly members of this fo...

Re: Australia misses out on Mario's wood

Mario DeCosta is a SPAM merchant and is not welcome at the ANZLF. IMHO his business model is devised to take advantage of inexperienced builders. This is evident in the simple fact that near 'everything' he sells, including discolored, variegated, and uneven grained tops, all include the words "Mast...

Re: Guitar disasters forum? Build tragedies maybe?

in the end the root cause comes down to inadequate planning. Bullshit Marty...at the end of the day it's 'always' the bloody dogs fault! That's the only reason you feed'em and tak'em to the vet when their crook, so they'll stick around for a kick in the arse when they stupidly allow you to make a b...

Too right Steve, for veneers a 'well honed' wad punch should probably work out okay I reckon.

Re: Plug Cutter Advice

Just a tip on cutting plugs. I use a USA based 'Snappy' brand tapered plug cutter. They probably supply lee valley also and make a pretty good product. The tip?....Have your drill press running flat out and don't muck about on the feed rate cause it will keep the cutter cooler and avoid any burn. To...

Well, didn't get many (opps any) :D responses to that then. Must be a boring subject. I've been looking at different types of cyclones and like the reports on the Dust Deputy one. My idea is to put one of them on top of the 200L drum so very little Dust and no larger particulates actually get into ...

Re: Fish Glue....never again.

I bought a ltr of FG a few years back from Germany. A while after it had arrived and been placed upon the shelf, a negative post appeared about FG @ the OLF. It was my opinion once the regular level of debate was over, the most credible input as to 'why' there had been a problem was pointing the fin...

(Topic moved to build forum by admin) When CF Martin went from 12 fret to 14 fret they shortened the upper bout by about 1 fret and moved the bridge and bracing towards the neck by another frets worth This is the way I've dealt with it in the past, IMO the more realestate behind the bridge the bette...

I put mine into used shopping bags upon which "Pure Angus" has already been written in large letters with a sharpie.
