Re: Couldn't help myself...
Oh and on the side, I'm actually hoping the miniature camera module can be used to give me a live and virtual look inside guitars too - there is the related stretch I was mentioning. I'll wait for the next generation of miniature drones which will be smaller, and equipped with a couple of robot arm...

Re: Spanish Cedar
Just checked , Listed as Havannah in this book from 1853 , just how they spelled it then ? That would be my first guess too. For example, today's German spelling of this city's name is "Havanna" (without trailing "h"). Cedrela Odorata, Says its a native of North America and the West India Islands ....

Re: Spanish Cedar
This one is probably between 1740 to 60 and is Havana Cedar,( spelled Havannah I think, in my book on the wood) I never heard or read of a wood called similarly, but if the name means to relate to the cuban capital it might be spelled "Habana" (Spanish) or "Havana" (English). Apologies, for putting...

Re: Spanish Cedar
Demonx, if by macrocarpa you mean Monterey Cypress, a softwood conifer, I can't see the similarity to Spanish cedar which is a hardwood, more akin to mahogany but softer and lighter. I did mention it's not the same, but I have heard people call it Spanish cedar. Well, you said "commonly". Very upset...

Just a dummy´s question: What is "fabric softener" ? Is that the stuff used in laundries or at home in washing machines? Genau. Weichspüler. Funktioniert prima! Soak the wood in undiluted fabric softener or brush it on repeatedly over 30 or 40 minutes, let dry for at least an hour but preferably no...

Re: First build - split in back due to humidity :-(
Glad the fix held up well. :) I was quite surprised how much the tone developed in the first few hours of playing (it's getting better and better) Sure. Never tie yourself up on the next tree if a guitar doesn't sound right 30 minutes after having strung it up. Rounding the soundhole has a practical...

Now that's a real gem! It even would be one if you had used some plain, non-figured wood, it is so nicely crafted!

Re: 16 inch Florentine archtop.
Thank you Martin for the list of what not to do, and thank you Rod for the hints what to do. The slight groove on the brace edge, and the idea of how to stretch the strands will surely help a great deal if I'll ever attempt to go the CF - reinforced brace route!

Re: 16 inch Florentine archtop.
Wonderful work Rod! The carbon fibre on top of the braces looks cleaner than most or all I have seen so far. I have not yet worked with CF but would like to know what's the key to get the strands down so cleanly. What are the things one must and/or must not do in order to not only prevent a mess but...

Yes, 38° was around 5. July. Nothing special for some tropical spots in Australia I guess. Now we are back below 30° but it will go up a bit again during this week. Last week I was helping my neighbour harvesting cherries. A good part of them had dried still hanging on the trees completely within ju...
