Re: Guitar cases for smaller/parlour guitars

I'm building an O-18 at the moment - I'm in for one case. I build so slowly that this doesn't translate into guitars/year, but I'm keen nonetheless. Good on you Bob - hope it works out.

As a further point of clarification. Would you be referring to this... fat-yak.png ...or something derived from this... yak.jpg As a non-drinker, I'm more interested in the trans-fat content of yak fat - apparently makes good cheese, and great for the old ticker. And, if it does go rancid, the Tibet...

Where do you get/ how do you make the dishes? What ever happened to that old tutorial by Graham Mcdonald? Thats how i did mine. Thinkin'[ about making a smaller, more manageable, uke sized dish using the same method. Me too. It's still there, but it looks like a lot of the tutorial is missing... ht...

I was doing a bit of research on violins & happened across this. If you weren't already feeling inadequate, check out the lady cutting the f-holes in the cello at the 6 minute mark...

Re: Not your average sort of day

Steve, have to wonder if the chainsaw operator wasn't someone just helping themselves to a bit of wood. It's pretty wet here at the moment - I've heard since that a tree had developed a nasty lean and was looking like falling on a car in the middle of the night. Apparently it was our local council ...

Re: Not your average sort of day

I agree - those sort of severe reactions can be terrifying. Glad to hear it all worked out ok. We had an interesting experience (although it pales to yours) - got woken at 11:15pm by the sound of a screaming chainsaw. Although we do live adjacent to a koala corridor, I would still consider it the 'b...

This looks more like spam from Google? I recall not long ago that when I checked my Gmail account, I was getting prompted to join some sort of networking function - it may have been the same one as the one that you've been invited to Martin. If it's anything like Skype, when I used my Outlook contac...

I did a search on them when I first saw this. It appears that they are different species. Red Mahogany - Eucalyptus resinifera, E. pellita. Family: Myrtaceae Rose Mahogany - Dysoxylum fraseranum Family: Meliaceae ...and then there's a third species in the Red Mahogany suite: E. scias which occurs d...

Like most of the others here, my package was opened/inspected by AQIS & put on its way. I agree that the inconsistency is one of the most infuriating parts, so I thought that I'd jump onto the AQIS website - after all, you can pick up dried meat in the form of jerky/biltong down at your local superm...

Re: Felling large Eucalypt - thoughts on sawing?

It does look like a spotted gum. There's a few sub-species, but it looks not unlike the one that I have leaning over my back fence. The older leaves on our one have a great lemon smell when you crush them (hence the botanical name Corymbia citriodora ). Historically, they have been a pretty common s...

Not too worried about metal in the tree(s), not much tree shootin happnin in these parts Will Funny you should say that Will - in my last job, I did heaps of tree shootin'. It's a very common way to collect seed samples from trees. Not sure that it would have gone down too well in suburbia though. ...

It's a bit hard to see in the picture, but bluegum (aka Forest Red Gum) often has a distinctive blotchy bark with patches of darker grey & silvery white.
