Re: TC Bianca & Anthony

Kim, it seems to have corrected it's course & straightened up directly towards your shed. It's almost as if there's a source of warm & high-pressure air that resides somewhere in your vicinity. :D

Great looking guitar Bob. The blackwood sapwood bindings looks fantastic. What's the bridge - is that made out of the same stuff?

I know that this thread is ancient history, but it's a bit like working your way through a great novel and discovering the last chapter ripped out. Did you ever finish these off Bob?

Re: Help Find A Book for me

I did find a bit more info on it here FibreCraft.JPG Like everybody else has found, it seems to be out of print? But, it is at my local library. Do you have a valid library card? Looks like you may already have other options, but at 30 pages, should be no problem to scan/email it - just let m...

Thanks fellas, that gives me a glimmer of hope - I had thought that this one may have been toast. I already had plans for some side-reinforcement, but had hoped that it would be on before any cracking.

Check out my crack...

Was just preparing some linings to fit to these sides on an O-18 & discovered this crack. The sides are silver ash, about 2.2 mm thick, the crack's about 6cm long (& although it's not conspicuous on the outside, there's definitely a bit of a divot). ...I guess that I kind of already know that this i...

Re: Is N.Z. going "third world"?

Not sure if you saw in my link, but the same message was being sent from Malta too. I don't think that there's much doubt that the address and phone number (not enough numbers) are dodgey. Here's a blurb from Wikipedia that seems quite plausible (& puts the poor old kiwis in the clear)... In the Aus...

Re: Source - Blonde De Waxed Shellac

Hi Kim,
There's a whole heap of stuff to be found here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=879, and ringing endorsements for a local supplier here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1495. The dewaxed shellac is on page 19 of the 'Restoration Hardware' catalogue.
Good luck,

Hmmm, might be a great opportunity to check out Desert Oak for fretboards? Enjoy Alice, it really is a spectacular area.

Fret position can easily be calculated using a spreadsheet and the Rule of 18. PM me your email address and I'll send you my spreadsheet (Mac version). Better also tell me what version of Office for Mac youre running.Cheers Martin You're right Martin, it works a treat. I used the Stewmac calculator...

I would have bought them too but I already had them and paid almost 400 Aussies for them  So you would have got a good saving on what most of us paid 6 or 8 months ago. They came in at AUD265 landed on my door, including the international transfer charge on my credit card. You know what they...

Re: Factory machined or Handcrafted?

Phew...philosophy. I guess many of the workshops I have seen on the forum including mine are like little factories, we tool up, run certain operations at particular machines or stations and sure we may be one man operations but does a factory need more than one person to operate it. CNC, nice tool r...

Ultimate leap of faith

It has no strings, but does have a box, soundhole & melodies. It's that time of the year again when the Eastern Rosella chicks are fledging. If you guys are interested in building one, you can get plans on the net. The critical thing is the size of the 'soundhole' - big enough to fit the male rosell...

Re: homegrown exotics

I reckon that the Botanic Gardens is a great idea - certainly the easiest place to pick up seeds (but don't get caught helping yourself). Cairns has a pretty extensive one from what I recall. A lot of these old gardens had heaps of exotics - life was much simpler before quarantine regulations. It is...
