Jigs and templates etc save you ruining the part you may have already put several hours work into.

Re: Break Angle at the Saddle
When analysing the torque on the bridge, you can basically assume that the string is pulling to the left at the top of the saddle and the rest of the string, saddle and bridge acts as one with the connection to the soundboard providing resistance to the bridge rotation hence T x saddle height is the...

Re: Break Angle at the Saddle
Torque is pretty simple
For static torque of the bridge on the soundboard it is just saddle height above the soundboard in metres by string tension in Newtons.
As far as the tension change signal it is just a much smaller plus and minus force superimposed on the static string tension

Re: Break Angle at the Saddle
I'm not sure why you have halved the angle, and I think you have transposed sine and cos, but it could be me being rusty on this. There are a few other problems with the calcs too But the major problem is that these are static forces not the signal forces The key issues to understand are that -these...

Re: Break Angle at the Saddle
The vibration from the string is transmitted to the soundboard in two ways Firstly, and the major sound producer is transverse to the string, which drives the soundboard in and out. Secondly and with much less energy and at twice the frequency is the tension change signal. This is the one which rock...

Re: Break Angle at the Saddle
I The string tension exerts and downwards (and forwards) pressure on the saddle, I will call this the Resultant! The bigger the Resultant the more energy that gets driven into the saddle and then the soundboard. Would anyone like to go through my sums and see if I am thinking correctly? This is the...

Re: Bottle slide setup
It depends on his style of playing. Does he combine fretted notes with slide notes? Many players do and if this is the case you will not want a greatly increased action. I would not replace the nut, all that would possibly be needed would be to raise the saddle and maybe install a slightly higher se...

Re: Articulated string pull
You are right Deems that there is still an angle depending on how you look at it. In practice though that extra lateral deviation, on top of the headstock angle does make a difference. For example, the classic Gibson les Paul with a 17 degree headstock angle plus widely spread D and G strings is not...

Re: Articulated string pull
The straight string pull from tuner though nut is not exactly about "better intonation" The idea is that it improves tuning by allowing the string to run freely through the nut slot. So the string doesn't stick in the slot after a big bend and the string goes flat. And tuning up gives instant result...

Re: Clear lacquer over French polished surface ??
I had a 56 Jag Mk8 a few years back The original finish would have been Nitro lacquer which did not stand up well to exposure to the Australian sun. I used acrylic lacquer in refinishing mine. I think putting lacquer over the FP would be a retrograde step but if I had to, I'd probably remove any sur...

Re: Dremel or trimmer
I was using a dremel on the SM base, attached to the SM circle cutter for rosettes. I was never really happy with it. I modified the SM circle cutter to take a trimmer base and use the trimmer with 1/4" to 1/8 adapter for rosettes. Much better results due to the better bearings, rigidity, mass and p...

Well this one broke, but who knows why.
I think every joint has the potential for failure if it is abused enough or poorly glued.
Can't say that I see many failures in headstock location scarfs

I'm sorry to tell you Max, but this is a fairly common variation. I have a 1963 Framus here ATM awaiting collection after I repaired a broken joint in this location. Its not a hard repair in this case because I was able to use hot hide glue as per original. You also see it in a lot of Asian factory ...

Re: Building a go bar deck and radius boards on the cheap
I use them for just about everything including fitting soundboard and back to rims. I like the way you can just space them all along a brace at 40mm or so to get uniform pressure and do a complete bracing layout in one go. I use strips of merbau about 15X4 with a set of shorter lengths for closing t...

Re: Falbo Intension Bridge
Distance may equal delay
But you are so opposed to the long dipole because it has two out of phase areas,
Phase opposition represents a shift to one signal of half the wavelength which is not a constant time but dependant on the frequency, as opposed to the fixed delay found in comb filtering.

Re: Falbo Intension Bridge
So we know from the physics that the long and cross dipole have two antinodes that are 180 degrees out of phase with each other (this should also apply to the monopole cause the antinode in the middle of the board is out of phase with the rim or any part on the other side of the monopole node). So ...
