Re: Help the router slipped.

Thanks for all the input, it has really helped to get over this relatively minor but near fatal blunder :cl I have made an inlay that matches the rosette (jarra, mahogany bordered by Tassie blackwood) that covers the offending area:) Its glued in with titebond (thanks for all the glue tips). Its not...

Re: Help the router slipped.

Thanks guys. Pretty frustrating I just got the box closed a few weeks ago, and been making various jigs to rout the end graft and bindings- first cut and the sleeve on the router slipped I can try to inlay a decorative piece in there. I was also thinking to scoop out an area around the cut and glue ...

Help the router slipped.

Luckily I still have fingers.

I did manage to rout the top on my guitar while routing the channel for the end graft :x :x :x :x

Any tips on how to fix this one? The top wood is cedar, and I have some offcuts to fill it in.

Hi Luke Welcome to the forum. I also have dupuytrens in my right hand which means I can't finger pick too well anymore :| and I have switched from playing to building partly because of this. I am halfway through my first build at the moment. If you're not setup for building yet with tools etc I woul...

Re: Build thread for first Gore SS from the plans in the boo

Looking Good, the perspex template looks good. The one I made out of 3mm MDF is getting a bit scruffy around the edges

Have a look at this link for another way to make a radius dish.

How important is it to use a hard burnisher eg carbide versus something handy like a HSS drill shaft or screwdriver?

Re: Wood Bandsaw, What it's made from, not what it cuts

Ive been making one as well. Its nearly done. The table doesn't tilt but its fully built other wise.

It doesn't have any guarding on it yet which which give me the heebies , so i haven't done any real cutting on it yet.

I'll post some pics on it in the jigs section when im done

Re: bandsaw issues

Thanks Matthew :)

After looking and reading I'm looking at getting a 17" 2hp to start rather than try to resaw with a smaller saw, but its still a while off yet. And a dedicated resaw blade for doing that stuff. Probalbly a pain to change blades here and there but probably worth it

Re: bandsaw issues

Another quick question,Whats the difference between a resaw blade and a normal blade.:D. Im planning to get a bands saw so have been researching what I need. A rip or resaw blade has teeth with a more square, wide cutting top like a chisel, to cut through the kerf width of fibres all at once, to al...

Re: Ideas for binding on a Tiger Myrtle uke

If you matched the fretboard, bridge and binding woods so they all matched it wouldn't look out of place, if the colour tone worked with the myrtle. So rosewood, ebony, wandoo, ironwood etc. would work.

Ok, after some pretty major financial setbacks, I am FINALLY getting around to starting on my first uke... Money is still very tight, so I'm trying to save some money where I can. Being a carpenter I have most of the tools I will need (or at least ways and means of improvising) but one thing which ...

Re: Cool Stuff you've scored from work

A few years ago the company I worked for was moving premises. I got a mercury calibration thermometer, 5kg brass calibration weight, and a bag full of lab grade plasticware. The thermometer is 0.1C accurate, the 5kg weight (which is now really out of calibration :)) is really useful in the shed for ...
