David you might as well get the shellac youre going to use for the french polish job. Just make up a 2lb cut with the flakes and IMS meths (100% meths ie no water) and then cut it back to 1lb cut for sealing up prior to routing/CA gluing. For FP I use blonde shellac flakes....LMI shellac is good but...

Just shellac the inlay channel and immediate area of the top. No need to do the whole top. All youre doing is providing a barrier against the CA wicking out from the rosette and staining the spruce top. As far as I know shellac won't compromise adhesive properties of CA. As an aside shellac is also ...

I’ve tried using sitka as a replacement top on a classical I fixed, it came out a bit flat and quiet, it was also very dead on the nylon strings. I ended up taking the top back off and changing the bracing, I removed the outer fan brace on the treble side and moved the brace next to it to split t...

I use the Hot Stuff CA glues.....they come in three viscosities. Im pretty sure Carbatec carry them. Macwood here in Adelaide certainly stock them. Loctite are a reputable brand and if Kim says their CA glue is ok then it must be ok. One tip if youre flooding CA glue anywhere near a spruce top.....s...

Good on ya Allen, stick to em. I'm in the US at the moment, and the level of service available here on just about everything makes our suppliers look like a bunch of clowns. For example I ring one of the four or five contractors that I'm dealing with and most times they've got a bloke (electrician,...

Allen...Im reading a carbon copy of the experience I had a few months back when I ordered some bandsaw blades and an HNT Gordon plane from Carbatec in Adelaide. Admittedly they did come to the party and didnt charge me for all the bandie blades but the moral of the story is always ring them up to ch...
