Re: First guitar build

As to finish in the fretboard - dont... Ive never put a finish in any of my fretboards, just sanded to 400 and left bare. However if you mus t have a finish you can buy a fretboard oil, i think behlen make one - google it to find supplier. As to filling the holes, i have done this a few times and ha...

Sure this isnt for compensation?
Easiest fix would be to route the neck pocket back the same amount.

Short answer is - Yes, i believe so. But it's not just about weight.
From my ears, Koa topped Ukes dont actually sound very good (compared to a spruce or WRC top uke of simular build quality).

Re: Joining WRC soundboard

Just leave 'em in overnight. The important thing when deciding how long to leave your top under clamps is to maximise beer drinking time :gui 48 hours is way too long.....overnight is just right. Thanks Martin, the reason I leave my spruce tops in the jig for `2hours is so that air can get around t...

Re: Joining WRC soundboard

I did read a while ago that guys made the joints too smooth and the glue had nothing to suck into it relies on a slight vacuum, and Martin also found this to be a problem so for want of a better explanation they made the faces a little fury so to speak. To avoid this i very lightly run some 180grit ...

Re: Joining WRC soundboard

Thanks all for your suggestions. Sorry, havent been online for awhile. Turns out it just needed longer to set, left it in the jig for 48hours this time - opened her up - solid. I usually only leave my spruce tops in the jig for 2hours, then carefully remove and let 'air' for a day. What a pain, this...

Joining WRC soundboard

So i've started making my first WRC top and the bloody join won't stay, using titebond original. Joined it up yesterday, waited 2.5 hours, took it out and the join just fell apart. Planed it back this morning, removing any left over titebond, gave it another shot, waited 6 hours this time, and again...

What about WRC for falcate braces? I recently salvaged some from an old outdoor table. Perfectly quartered.
Haven't tried bending it yet.

Re: Hlw do I install jack in a cigar box.

Lol all this technical info. When all I did was to mark and chisel out a notch to half the depth of the side and walla jack fits. Man the simplest option that nobody thinks of first. Took me around 5-10 min with my novice skills. Otherwise chisel out a channel on the inside to make the side thinner...

Re: Hlw do I install jack in a cigar box.

Get a smaller drill

Depending on the diameter of the jack get a matching T-nut and insert that from the inside. Just make sure the jack never undoes from the T-nut.

Otherwise chisel out a channel on the inside to make the side thinner where the jack is..
