Re: Cutting Frets without Template? - Ukulele & Mandolin
I just use the fret placement calculator on the Stewmac site, print it out and stick it on the fretboard with spray on rubber glue. Really simple and accurate.

Re: cooktown ironwood fingerboards
I've never had a problem. I useEVO so the refret is deferred for a very long time. Since I got the slot width sorted out back bow hasn't been an issue. I believeGerard had concerns about potential sensitivities to Cooktown Ironwood. I've not experienced any issues.

Polishing Bote Cote?
I have an instrument under construction and up to the pore filling scraping, pore filling scraping bit. Like some others I have gone from West systems to Bote Cote. Its nowhere near as toxic and much easier to use. Looking at the beastie last night I got to wondering if the Bote Cote could be polish...

Re: NSW bushfires, OCT 2013
Im on the edge of the Blue Mountains and yes, it has been a bit smoky. Thursday was really rather bad. The hot wind just blew it up. Fortunately it went past north of my place but it crossed the Nepean and was snuffed out in the quarry, phew. We had a lot of back burning over winter (some that went ...

Well done, Im sure it sounds great and much better than any beater down at the local music shop. I really like the finish, you have done well. The thing with mistakes is that you are the one who knows about them in detail and they will always stare out at you. Its kind of like a diary of the time pe...

Love the sound clips Peter, the whole idea and execution is brilliant!
My favourite YouTube player, Marissa Carrol, plays an original and I reckon you have got that sound just right.
Are you going to sell plans?

Further to Johns point I made a "keep the scraper square when sharpening jig by cutting a piece of hardwood on the table saw and adding a few bolts with wingnuts. Works a treat for my level of klutz.

I run mine pretty fast Kamsur, Id have to look up the speed on the drill but its pretty well top speed. Keep the teeth sharp and take small cuts and it works well.

Re: Group Buy Maybe
Hi Tod,
I did the last one and learnt a few things along the way. KISS and ensure your specs are robust are the two main ones. I'll PM a phone number if you want to discuss it. Great fretwire and a great company to deal with BTW, I still have a heap Im working my way through.

Re: Radius sanding blocks
I put a rail either side of the piece and worked in 2-3mm increments. I thought the Safe-T-Planer was quite adequate to the task and quite safe.

Re: pore filling
I have a UV coating system for print. It is a great finish, hard, high gloss and very clear, it really brings the colour out of the sheet. It also has serious disadvantages, the smell, the need for a preheat and the risk of burns. My staff use appropriate PPE but there is a real risk of burns to ski...
