Hi Scuffle, (Assuming you have not grain filled with Epoxy.) IMHO , just wipe it over with some shellite , let it dry out for a few hours and keep applying light coats to the rub through area till you back a film thickness matching the rest of the instrument. then continue coating the entire instrum...

Sorry Martin,I am so dumb, I must have looked at that page for 5 minutes trying to see the reference. Eventually got there. Maybe I really should get Trevor's books.
In hindsight it was a bit abstract, bit like my sesnse of humour , sure Trevor will have a chuckle when he reads it.

+1 and a tracking number, it's pretty much as easy and as pleasant to use as Stewmac now.LMI notified me when order got shipped and gave me a USPS tracking number.
I really like there products , so i'll be using them a bit more know.
