Re: Classical Build

Thanks Martin

The vast majority of respondents have recommended that option, so I shall go with it!

By chance the Lutz came with the blackwoood, so that was obviously meant to be.
And I had already decided on the Torres plan - it looks symmetrical so can change to a righty when it needs to.

Re: Preparing Uke Kits for the Cairns Ukulele Festival 2011

Love the soundtrack!!! Love the video. Love the idea of the workshop, it's on my to do list. One day, if the Aussie dollar ever comes back to earth. Michael, you had better hope Martin doesnt watch this - he is going to have some serious stash envy. (unless of course he has more wood than that in hi...

Hi Paul,

I was looking for it too and didn't find anyone stocking it in NZ.
Someone posted a link for it tho,

When I went to their website it seemed postage was not too bad

The variety in the humanity never ceases to amaze me...... I really liked the speed changes and I thought that his timing was spot on, when he came back to the original groove, he seemed on it to me, The "gee-tar" as he would no doubt call it, sounds perfectly matched to his idiosychratic playing st...

Re: Fish Glue?

..... I would not recommend using it if you do not work in a controlled environment. Of course, I wouldn't recommend building guitars unless you work in a controlled environment, though I know many who do. This is a bit off the fish glue track but............ With all due respect to Waddy's opinion...

This batch of necks has the scarf joint just off of the saw. All put together with HHG.

I stand corrected and impressed, thats a lot of necks!!! :o

Crikey! Markus, As this obviously is actually part of the LHC, where do the mesons and bozons come out? Seriously though, I admire your patience and its nice to see other people use wood for engineering things, everyone else I know would have used (or tried to use) metal for most of the bits and pie...

Re: Member Intro and a couple of questions.

Hi Jeremy - I recognise that feeling! A good scarf joint is all about your hand plane - you wont be gluing the sawn faces together so it doesnt matter whather you cut it with the bandsaw or by hand. (btw, while the bandsaw may be small, they are still very versatile tools - but are only as good as t...

Hmmmmmmmmm........ that looks very, very sharp. And I know by experience it will look better in the flesh.
There's no "green with envy re guitar building skills" emoticon, otherwise there would be several here.

Well done Dave!!

Re: Pick ups in Acoustics

Yet another vote for K&K's Richard, I've fitted them in all of my Selmer Mac's & give a true representation of acoustic sound (No quack, to use the term commonly used for piezo's). After my last builds where the customer also specified he wanted it amplifier-able I would also put a recommendation i...

And if your kids get involved in the business you could be "Hamley and Family" Guitars - you wouldnt want to miss out on that....... :D

but seriously, I agree, stay with your name, it already has some respect and you will start at the bottom again if you ditch it.

Re: Carba-Tec tools

One tip, I quickly found its worth going bigger/heavier than I originally thought. Heavier more powerful machines run smoother, far more accurately and will last a lot longer. You can waste more money by having to upgrade tools that are not quite up to what you want to do than paying a bit more to ...

Wise words from two great builders - I will ponder the fret press cauls. After all, I have saved a small fortune by not buying Jeremys CNC machine...........
My drill press is a bit girly though.
