Packard Guitars
Does anyone have any information on Packard Guitars?
I understand they were made in Adelaide S.A, in the1940s/50s.

Re: Would you build with this?
Hi Nick
Your timber looks similar to some I bought on ebay that was sold as Macasar mahogany.
It is allegedly plantation grown mahogany from Indonesia. The sets that I received were knot free.
I am currently in the process of using the sets to make an all mahogany OM style guitar.

Re: Trevor Gore Course
Dom Eight people in your workshop will be nice and cosy in June in Canberra. I think it would work, but I don't know what facilites Trevor requires. Would it be worthwhile sending Trevor photos of your workshop so he can get an idea of space. I am happy to help you to clean up if you would some help.

Zendo......principles are fine but they get you nowhere.
A thickness sander will save you lots of stress and grief.
You can use your hand scrapers to finish off the job.

Re: Plans for a double neck acoustic guitar
Thanks Dom - it is for a friend, my teacher, who wants to make the guitar for himself. I have no plans to build a dual neck, The challenge of a single neck is enough for me. Scott - my friend wants a dual neck so he can have two different tunings on the one guitar. I see Chris Wynne of Thomas Lloyd ...

Dear John ( at last a Dear John letter) Thank you for sharing with us your creative recovery techniques. Who would have thought you could iron lacquer off a guitar or would be courageous enough to remove a top with a jig saw. You don't find such valuable or practical instruction in Cumpiano and Nate...

Re: Blackwood Stain.
Hi John I have used oxalic acid to remove green stains on blackwood sides, after bending in a side bender using steel slats. It worked well for me with no apparent detrimental effects on the timber. I used a saturated solution of oxalic acid and brushed it on liberally, over the whole surface area o...

Re: The dreaded "P" word
Martin Last year, I had to undergo an ultrasound scan of my bladder/prostate and was required to drink 1 litre of water prior to the scan. I finished the water at home and then drove to my appointment. A bad mistake, I couldn't hold on long enough, the radiologist was running a bit late. Good advice...

Diamond Sharpening Block
Aldi stores are currently selling a diamond sharpening block
150mm x 50mm, four grits- 200, 300, 400, and 600 for $9.99.
Could be good for something at that price, even fret levelling.

John
Sorry I can't comment on meters as I don't own one, but if you can get hold of "Wood in Australia" by Keith Bootle,
see page 90 where he talks about meters and correction figures for timbers.
