Re: Tru-oil finish; Tackiness and possible solutions
Hi Pete, you posted that recipe a while ago, so i thought i'd give it a go, i might have mixed it wrong i'm not sure, i think i got it right, but it stayed sticky for a couple of weeks so i ended up sanding it off, luckily it was only an armrest, i ended up spraying it with lacquer. Wayne

Re: Quiet in here
I've got 2 guitars almost done, just getting the finish on them. One is for a customer, a EIRW lattice braced SS, and one is a Padauk parlour guitar for my 8 year old grandson. I also have a 16 year old coming one day a week and we're builing a Macassar ebony SS with cutaway together, it'll be a lef...

Re: Bending Brazilian Lacewood sides
You can try soaking the sides in water with fabric softener in it, Wayne. Also make sure you thin the cutaway section more than the rest of the sides, it worked for me with a set of African b/wood which is supposed to be brittle. Maybe worth a try.

I've used it on 2 classical necks Mark and they've both been fine, both were reinforced with cf. Take note of what Pete said, it's good advice. Wayne

Re: Auspost troubles
I've had 2 guitars left on the doorstep of customers in Mackay. They were sent by courier but when they get there Oz post take over and they don't give a shit, both were supposed to be signed for. I've blasted the courier service involved and they've assured me it won't happen again ( we'll see ). I...

Re: A bit of fun
Thanks everyone. I haven't seen the archtop Tod, but i think he's trying to spruce it up a bit and give it an old style look. This was a nice little project to do, something different.

A bit of fun
I was asked to make a pick guard for an archtop. The customer wanted rosewood of some type and then he wanted it art deco as well. So i made it out of Cocobolo for the main part and 5 different timbers for the rest. African b/w, Padauk, Macassar ebony, b/eye maple and Tas b/w. He also wanted plastic...

I think you've come up with a really good idea Richard, i'm sure there will be plenty of builders that'll sign up. You've obviously gone to a lot of trouble, thanks for taking the time to do it.

Re: Just a bit of romance
Thanks for the reply Rod, i've just ordered a safe t plane and am waiting for that to do the sides. I've got the thickness at about 5/16" all over, should i remove more and get it a bit thinner now? Or is that done later? Thanks again Wayne

Re: Just a bit of romance
Very nice Rod. How wide is the recurve? I've just started my first archtop and there's a few things i'm not sure about, recurve is one of them. This is the Lutz i got from Mario. Thanks.

Hi Nick, And one more would be patience and thinking long-term - there is always next time. I guess its like your suggestion to only change one thing. Plan your next 6 builds and incorporate all of those experiments over a longer horizon. Can reduce the desire to try it all at once. Cheers, Shane I...

Re: African Blackwood OM
It wasn't too bad at all to work with Markus, it bent pretty easy, even the cutaway. I followed John and Jeffs advice when i bent it and it was fine. It glued up ok and was easy to do all the other stuff, so workability was good. Wayne
