Here's my Flamenco Blanca. Re: Ebony and Red Cedar 000

I noticed Martin from your excellent photos that the 14th fret is at the body joint instead of the 12th fret that is generally applied with falcate bracing. Hope you don't mind if you could provide some background in regards to: Were adjustments required to the falcate bracing layout in view of the...

Re: Ebony and Red Cedar 000

Hi Martin, Another gorgeous instrument! I love Aust Red Cedar! Can I ask: is the headstock-front "veneer" quite thick? With a nice bwb line around the outside - fibre sheets? What glue did you use on the headstock veneer and lines? Thanks, GregL. Hi Greg, The front veneer is only 2mm thick but then...

Re: Ebony and Red Cedar 000

A great looking guitar! I like the timber combinations. Did you have any issues working with the Australian Red Cedar timber being very soft? What was the final thickness of the Top? Like here a sound sample if possible. Wayne https://wjguitars.wixsite.com/mysite-1 Thanks Wayne, the Red Cedar slab ...

- you must have an entire body mold - was the molding process very difficult? - is the whole thing very heavy? I looks a bit heavy with all that epoxy (not that I mind a bit heavy!) - what's happening just north of the nut? Just curious - maybe the fingerboard extends past the nut? - what pickups d...

Is that an epoxy resin you've used?
It's a casting resin from www.BoatCraftNSW.com This one is a 2:1 mix and doesn't heat up over 80°. I bought it at the Working with Wood show this year. It's easy to use.

Re: Les Paul done and dusted!

Hi Mike, Yes! Now that I’ve had the chance to give it a few runs, the guitar is sounding great. I run it through a Blues Junior III Limited edition that I have replaced the speaker with a Warehouse speaker. Really broad dynamic range. I have wired it with the 1959 configuration which I might change ...

I am in Bega. You are welcome to drop in and tour the workshop. I don't know of any timber suppliers down this way.
Hi Peter, that would be great! I'll PM you my mobile number.

travelling south

Hi fellow addicts! My wife and I will be travelling down the A1 (the coast road) from the Central Coast above Sydney through to Melbourne over the next week or so and I was wondering if there were any noteworthy luthiers/timber suppliers along the way. Well be going through Nowra, Eden and across to...

Re: Les Paul done and dusted!

Hi Greg, Is the Aust Red Cedar from Boutique timbers? From the same batch as your Les Paul Junior build (you posted in August 2018)? Yes! That slab has been very good to me so far. I have about 3-4 drop tops left with that figure. Probably not enough for a carved top but just need to work out what s...

This is my version of the classic Les paul. Re: Les Paul Junor

Where did you get that Figured Red Cedar? Thanks Greg. The cedar came from Boutique Timbers up at Rollands Plains. It was in a messy slab that didn't look too great to start with but after some planning produced the top. I have about 2 or 3 more sets from the same slab that are heading towards comm...

Turning weeds into guitars

If only all councils would donate their noxious weed removal to guitar builders (well, only the big ones of course) we would have more guitars like this. I know it's the equivalent of denim on denim but I just love timber. Camphor Laurel body, Blackwood pickguard, rock maple one pice neck. I think I...

Re: New member new build

Looks really interesting build. Pete McCurly of Curly Timbers may be able to guide you with timber choices. Also, Cedarworks in Grafton often get large slabs of Australian Cedar that are quarter sawn. Another species that may be available is Mackay Cedar (I've used it on an acoustic bass) and Boutiq...
