Re: New maker seeks advice

Hi Pavliku There wont be many agree with me here but you can use nitro in aerosol cans, and get a reasonable result. True, spray plant is better if you have access to it, but the set up cost is high if you are not going into production. PM if you want any further info, I'd be happy to help. If you d...

Re: ANOTHER big earthquake in Christchurch

As well as the 2 mins silence, theres also an email doing the rounds asking people to wear red and black tomorrow (Canterbury and Crusader colours!!) to show a bit of solidarity. I'll be doing that - its a statement of support that doesnt cost anything but means a lot because we will all know what i...

Re: ANOTHER big earthquake in Christchurch

When Julia Gillard (Aus PM) was over here a week or so ago, she made the point that the first people to offer help during the last quake and Pike river mine disaster was Aus, and the first people to offer help to Aus after the floods and cyclones were the Kiwis. The first overseas S and R teams in C...

Re: ANOTHER big earthquake in Christchurch

Auckland not affected other than being a bit in shock - excuse the pun Central Christchurch looks bad though. We've heard from a few mates that work in our office there, they are OK but homes are much more affected than the last time. The main cathedral in the centre of town, an iconic image of surv...

Lovely Peter, all elegance and simplicity. The tuners look very neat - modern and retro at the same time

I'm part way through my first OM - I hope it looks half as good as that when its done.

Re: Lubricant for hand sawing plates

Your framesaw is definitely cooler than my el cheapo panel saw - and probably a lot quicker. I cut as deep as I could with the table saw first then cut with the panel saw.

I think I will do multipiece backs in future - then I can use the bandsaw.

Lubricant for hand sawing plates

I don't have a big bandsaw, so I have to cut my plates like this I find lubricant, such as that shown, and Steely Dan on the stereo helps move things along :D DSC06413.JPG (And , yes, I know a better saw might also help, but I dont do this very often) Any day in the shed is a good day in the shed!! ...

Err, thanks but no, I wasn't wondering that at all. I always thought they were a myth made up by people selling tickets to rock concerts. I certainly never met any of them.

Another vote for kwila - I bought some in Auckland and it looked just like that, including the yellow resin in teh pores. I took a lot of filling when I went to fill the pores I had three goes and still didn't get them all. I built my travel guitar and the black tele using it, I like the finish and ...

Re: Indian Rosewood direct from Mumbai - Review

I have not bought anything from Mr Parekh but it seems to me he is getting a bit of a hammering here. Mr Parekh is entitled to use whatever system of payment he likes. We can buy where we like, so if we dont want the hassle, just buy the wood from some one else. I have had similar hassles buying stu...

Re: TC Bianca & Anthony

Anyone heard from Alan Hamley? Good to hear the rest of you are OK. I am interested in the coastal surge, and whether it got anywhere near the predicted levels. We heard 7 metres but I thought that sounded a bit high. Then later someone said it had been revised to 1.6m - still a huge surge on top of...

Hi Daniel and welcome. A few thoughts from one who is not very far ahead of you, building wise and well out of sight behind you playing wise, by the sounds of things. Kits I started with a kit from Stewmac, sitka and rosewood dreadnought. The woods were as good as I have seen elsewhere, including th...

Re: Fretboard chips

I tested a new ice cream container and it was too thick, so found an old munted one and it was just right. I didnt want it so tight in the slot that it caused another chip pulling it out. CA glue is drying as we surf. If you dont hear any more - it worked. Mikey - welcome to the site mate, but if I ...

Fretboard chips

Dear Brains Trust I have been putting inlays into the next fret board and have a couple of small chips at the upper end where the fret markers are a bit big. The chip extends from the diamond shaped marker to the adjacent fret slot. I have filled most of it with ebony dust and CA glue and thats fine...
