Re: CF rods and computing neck stiffness

(some of the members might even be in their undies)
Undies!
Since I started building guitars I can't afford luxuries like undies anymore

Well said BTW Stu.

Re: Gibson CS356 build

I'll also be following with great interest as something similar to this is on my "one day" list as well. The only concern I have is that if you use that rather dreary piece of maple, when the guitar is finished, you may be disappointed that you didn't use a nicer top wood. But I may be able to help ...

Re: Is the Dreadnought dead?

Personally I want to build guitars that I would want to play, probably because I realize that I most likely will never sell any  . I have two dreadnaughts, one is a near mint condition thirty year old high end Maton that has great sentimental value but I just hate playing it, just too big and ...

Re: Binding tape ruining my top

anyone ever see one sized to accept regular masking tape rolls?
I use a cheapie from K-mart, I don't know if it will take the Stew- Mac tape but it easily takes a 20mm wide roll of standard masking tape.

Yeah the guitar's nice and the amps a cracker but more importantly, who owns the bug in the background of the first pic and can we have some more shots of that? :D

1000th member

I see with Treble Left we've just hit 1000 members, when I joined up I was member 687.
I think 323 new members in less than 18 months is pretty go going for our little aussie/ kiwi aliance :D

That one looks particularly nasty, seems to be some timber missing. Please keep us updated with this one, I'd like to see how you repair it.

Hi Zac
You could try Warren Adams from Epic Guitars in Morriset, he's a good guy and might be able to help you out in some way.

Here's a couple of pic's of the new shed. I'll have to insulate it and sheet it out before I can get started building new bench's and shelving etc. But it's exciting having a blank canvas to start with.

Re: Simple Easy Tool

I bought one earlier this year when I bought some fret wire to get a Uke finished. Unfortunately it my haste to get at the fret wire that I forgot all about the string lifter and must have thrown it out with the packaging. (DOH must have had to many of these :gui :gui  )

Lovely job as usual Allen, really like the headstock shape with those tuners.
Are the "baron river" and "honey" inlays? very neat work if they are.

Re: Choice of neck for soprano uke

Hi Ian, I've not tried a Spanish heel so I can't really comment on them but I've dovetailed the necks on the 2 guitars and 3 ukes that I have made. As someone without any real woodworking background ( ie skill  ) I've found them to be a pain in the arse so I'll be going bolt on for future build...

Re: Quality of Huon as a tonewood

Hi Chalks, I used some very old (2000 years +) Huon on my first build. Yes it's heavy, very soft and not very stiff ( at least the piece I used ) but on the small body guitar I build it sounds really nice. Not a lot of volume, that could be the weight or the 1st builders overbracing  , but has...

Looks great Alan, a nice combination of timbers and I also like the unique look of the rosette.
What finish did you use? It looks to have a nice warm sheen without the gloss being overly reflective, it really lets the wood grain come through.

BTW many happy returns for the day. :dru :dru
