Re: A cyclone dust extractor when you don't have the money!

Well I tested the cyclone under load and put two thirds of a bucket of thicknessor and sander material through. With the suction hose (4") placed in the bucket the material was drawn up in about 10 - 15 seconds. Only about 1/4 of a hand full/desert spoon ended up on the baffle in the second stage of...

Re: A cyclone dust extractor when you don't have the money!

Much better thank you Lillian! I have included a drawing of the central tube which I installed but forgot to take an image of. The 150mm/6" tube extends down to about the same level as the metal cyclone section.

Good point Craig. I thought I would be able to avoid hot spots with the controller unit which monitors the temperature through a thermocouple in the blanket.

Re: bindings for soprano

I had a go with material from the same batch that I sent Andrew and had success. I did however use a thermal blanket over a former and had 135 celcius as my target. I also use a backing steel strap when I bent the Pacific Blackwood. Tas Blackwood bent okay but could have been done with the steel str...

Re: Take two, Khaya senegalensis

Hi Jim, Just got back from my drive down south! As an after thought if you have the facility to resaw into sets that would be the best approach. This would eliminate 90% of the surface checking. Possibly have 8 - 10mm thick rack sticks at about 50 - 75mm spacing with a sacrificial top cover and dead...

Re: Take two, Khaya senegalensis

Hi Jim, I thought I might add a few thoughts to this discussion that might be of some help. The way you breakdown the log will have some effect on the way the recovered boards react to a range of tensions that may exist in the log prior to milling. Namely spiral twist in the log, heart shakes, knots...

Hi Aidan,

Gimlet should be quite suitable. Curly Wandoo has also been used for fretboards.

Re: Sidebending machine steel 'slats' -where do you get it?

Unrolling fee!!!! Thats what I thought. I think it is the fee they charge when they can't be bothered unrolling the sprung material and have run low on beer!

Re: Sidebending machine steel 'slats' -where do you get it?

I sourced my .012"/0.3mm shim stainless spring steel from http://www.boynessprings.com.au/ (Perth). They sell the material in 300mm wide rolls at about $80 per metre. They have an unrolling fee included in the price. Let me know if you need any assistance.

Re: Another "what is this wood"

Jeez! A man gets cut down for making a stab in the dark! I will have some NG Rosewood arriving in a few days so I can make a comparison. That being said, the absense of leaf and flower might demand a bit of DNA work. Any botanists handy!
