Hi Allen, Its is an amazingly beautiful part of the world. But you cant in all honestly tell me you miss the cold. I was in Calgary when the wind came in from the Rockies, late Jan. Went from 40 degrees f to 2 degrees f in about 15 min! Bloody cold. I also spent about a month on Vancouver Island, ni...

Thanks for the pictures guys, particularly the group shot Hesh. I like the one at the front a lot, the way the frets appear to bend between the two bouts is really really really cool. I assume its some kind of inlay. Thanks for the museum link Rick, my kind of place. I have never played a guitar lik...

Hi Billy, Aus goes from tropics complete with monsoon, desert yeh a bit of that, down to about 44 South. So think of Mexico to Newfoundland. There arent that many big hills though, so s...

Hi guys,

Paul, Im a lot further west than you, on the escarpment and the swings can be dramatic, but not as dramatic as that. I personally havent had any issues (touch wood... ) but I tend to do carved tops and backs and dimensionally smaller sides.

Great heads up guys, thx

Kept thinking about the Oud's posted yesterday Dennis. The Oud for sale here is mosaiced (is that a word)

http://www.worldmusicalinstruments.com/ ... rings.aspx

Only $345, I think these guys are seriously undercharging for their work.

Black paper stuff, where do you get it

Hi everyone,

I remember a post about this before but who supplies the black fibre paper stuff for purfling? I want to make some rope purfling and a rosette for #2. It will be a two point, oval hole cittern.

Hi Billy,

Oops, apologies Dennis. I think that Graham's book describes an instrument very similar to the one being played. I believe its from Algeria. I got the link of a Mando forum,

Hi Billy, At $450 from Egypt I would expect it to be some kind of laminate. Happy to be proved wrong. I believe it to be some kind of Mandola but its a bit arbitrary. I four course tenor instrument is closest. Points of interest for me; the position of his right hand and the quite distinctive Morroc...

Hi Guys, Ill echo the comments on the Mexican food in Aus being lousy. I ate Tex Mex in Houston and I can assure you that the real stuff is much better than the Aussie. Also the Margaritas, Aussies just dont get it. Hesh, So there is an investment in CNC equipment coming?, a couple of staff maybe? I...

Hi Mathew,

That seems like a staggering amount of rosin. Its hard to imagine a pro allowing that to happen to their instrument. Do you know its history? It certainly looks like a challenge to me.

Wow bob, some gems for Port Fairy. I am also interested with your comments on the King Billy. I find it rather soft but not as soft as Western Red Cedar so I keep my fingernail short! I did a weather station out of Cheesewood for my FIL. Very highly figured which came up nicely with some water based...
