Re: Wood Rebirthing
Thanks Woodrat I'm pretty happy how the rosette turned out. Its Mahogany to match neck and bindings, Jarrah to match the fretboard, and Tas Blackwood to match the guitar back, sides and headplate. Should tie it all together nicely once its done. I think its Western red cedar, its definatety not Aust...

Re: Exporting music instruments to the USA
Thanks for posting this, and doing all the legwork. Seems ANY importer is stuck with the documentation requirement you mentioned in the last point. So presumably an importer would need to pass this documentation on to the wholesaler, then to the retail outlets, who would then need to pass it on to w...

Re: Photocopying plans?
I printed out the Grellier OM plans a while ago at a print shop of a well known office supplies chain. They were A0 size pdf files. They printed them out with the "Actual Size " setting. Measuring the scale length as drawn on the plans was spot on. I think they were $1.90 per print. I printed 5 copi...

Nice score Any Hi-Fi Amp or PA amp or any Audio frequency amp will drive the loudspeaker for this. From a quick read of Trevor's post you linked, and from Peter Coomes' setup, it might require a sizable speaker (10-12") and a decent amount of power (100+ watts) from the amp. You wont need any electr...

Re: Band Saw for Milling
I misread your post sorry Zendo and though you were after the blade. I am also looking to get a bandsaw for general stuff like cutting out templates and neck, tail blocks etc, but also want to be able to resaw a few sets. From what I know so far, the larger bandsaws (17" and up) can tension up a wid...

Re: Band Saw for Milling
You could try http://www.thode.co.nz/ They are NZ based, but have a factory about 500m down the road from me in Healesville VIC, which I presume supplies the local saw- milling industry. I gave them a call the other day to inquire about a resaw blade for a 16" band saw. I haven't purchased anything ...

Re: I didn't plan for this!
When I printed the OM plans from Grellier for mine, they were in .pdf format. This format saves the print and scale settings in real life size. This information is carried in the file format so when its printed with the "Actual Size" setting enabled the plans are printed large on A0 paper. All good....

Re: 1915 Manuel Ramirez Restoration
Aluminum was worth a fortune around 1900 due to electricity being so new and expensive so it was costly to smelt. Brass would have been a lot cheaper.

So here is the result I cleaned up the cut as well as I could to get rid of the titebond. The I heated up the area a bit with the heat gun and wedged as much HHG into the slot as possible. For the caul I used a flexible steel 6inch ruler clamped to the curve here it is glued http://img688.imageshack...

Re: Fish Glue?
Here is a link to a local supplier for fish glue. I have not purchased this, or used it myself yet, but have considered it. Not too sure if its exactly the same high tack stuff you guys are talking about. Its already through AQIS tho so may be worth grabbing a bottle to try. http://luthierssupplies....

Thanks Dennis The spokeshave's a good idea and I have a Stanley 151, I'll keep that in mind for the back plate. I have just setup the Hot Wax boiler today :) for the HHG but haven't had time to fire it up. I agree, the more I think about being able to heat it up again and re stick it if it doesn't w...

Re: Hello to all, and a minor catastrphe...
Thanks for the welcome guys. Thanks for all the advice! I’m glad the gouge seems repairable!! The build so far has been a bit precarious, but only minor mistakes until now ( cutting the X braces too short anyone? ) . The wood for the sides is Tasmanian Blackwood, and doesn’t seem oily. I was chiseli...

Hello to all, and a minor catastrophe...
Hi All Been lurking around the forum for a while now, very much enjoying seeing the awesome guitars you create. I have been building my first guitar, which has been going OK so far. Last weekend I glued the soundboard onto the sides. That went well, now its starting to be 3D, not 2D anymore :D . I t...
