So sorry this has happened in Christchurch area, especially sad to hear there were deaths and injuries.

Sorry to hear of the devastation to property, but we all really know it comes down to family and friends being safe.

My heart is with all of you in the path. I would like to have heard that you evacuated, so that we could just lament the loss of "stuff", but I see that you've decided to hunker down and ride it out. Sending positive vibes that you'll all be safe!

Re: Fighting back against greedy retailers
Because I do not live in the same State as Bob (RC Tonewoods) Cefalu, Bob would not have to charge me tax (That is, unless New York and Minnesota have an agreement that I'm unaware of.) It really is kind of an unknown until I make the transaction. For example, Grizzly is in a different State than me...

Re: Fighting back against greedy retailers
A question for any of our American members, do you know if any of the goods we buy to build guitars attract any kind of sales tax or other duties. I know you don't have a consumption tax but not sure about other sales taxes etc. Cheers Dom Dom, do you mean duty or VAT if we import something from Oz...

Unbelievable. My heart goes out to all affected by the flooding and the devastation it has caused.
And I see more (minor?) cyclones or tropical depressions around Oz. One source said the one on the northwest coast is headed southeast. Isn't that backwards of typical?

We drove through 5 days later and the electricity company had 6 large trucks out there with guys picking the grass and rubbish off the power lines.
Hope things dry out soon!

Nice job, Dominic! I wish I had seen your table before I built mine. I love the idea of the adjustability of suction area by installing the slotted plates. Not competition for your idea, but if you don't mind I'll include the one I made to compare and mostly contrast. http://www.leahyguitars.com/Ima...

Thanks for that Martin. I have spoken to a representative of Caltex this morning and they require my mechanic to give them a report on the damage plus a receipt for the repairs and they will re-imburse me. It looks OK so far. Wow, that's good news! Except for the inconvenience - which I hope is sor...

Re: Paypal and Wikileaks
Hey Dennis, Could Obama's inaction be due to the fact that he never did have the numbers? ? I don't follow too close but from what I picked up over here, it seemed that Obama wanted proper health reform tabling sweeping changes that would really make a difference and weaken the grip the insurers ha...

At this point, I'd say the US government is "rattling sabers", so Wikileaks has not been declared a terrorist organization - yet. Not sure how much of US news gets out and how it is spun, but remember that awesome guy we elected 2 years ago to stop all the bullshit that Bush and Cheney were doing in...

Re: KB Pine/Blackwood OOO
Oooooooooh! I bet you couldn't breathe for a while there - until you picked up the body and examined the damage. It must have hit in such a way, like a karate fall to the mat, where lots of places hit nearly simultaneously, and dissipated most of the energy. Either that, or the Blackwood is stronger...

Martin and Matthew, great exchange! That was freaking hilarious. :lmao I'm thinking that by standing on a ladder with one foot, while throwing the bucket of water, there would be an incomplete circuit and thus completely safe. And, in the odd chance that you would complete a circuit, simply drop the...

Oh this guitar just knocks me out!
Did I mention that if I can ever muster the skill, I'm going to steal that 12th fret binding/vine treatment? Don't worry, it'll take me a few decades to acquire the skill set.
