Ive got an old Ibanez OM copy in the shop for some modifications. The thing is a right hander and has been played for some time by a left handed musician aquaintance. The intonation is so far out the thing just wont tune up. I cant think for the life of me how this guy has gone for so many years wit...

Youll find that most of the "fine" guitars that come in for repair have already had countless repairs done already over the years. Braces get changed, splits get sloppily patched up etc etc...more often than not its a case of repairing repairs.

Yep...going in through the soundhole is the first option. If major surgery is called for then I take a rather ruthless approach. Out comes the router and off comes the binding. I then heat up a pallet knife with the heat gun and work the back or top off.

Goings on in the workshop

One week now since I came back from work so I now have my sanity back along with enough energy to get back in the workshop. Current projects include a classical undergoing french polishing (Pic 1) and back bracing on a 12 string dreadnaught (Pics 2 and 3). http://www.mcguitars.com.au/phpBB2/userpix/...

Very nice guitar Allen,

Nice neat simple lines and nothing too flashy, just what I like in a guitar.

Paul, Just going from the pic in the post IMHO the inlay needs to be a bit closer to the soundhole. Theres a bit too much wood between the inlay and the hole....to me it makes for a clunky look. Depends on the guitar as a whole of course. Can you pan back and take another pic of the whole top and po...

Naptha for removing oil

Okay Ive got a French Polish job here thats turning nasty on me. The shellac surface has a few minute breaks appearing in it. Its not an issue with shellac or the oil itself..both have been changed. The most likely culprit is some olive oil that has somehow gotten into the rosewood pores..possibly d...

That explains it, I went to uni more than ten years ago. Should have written about it then, now it would be the "Burns Theory". Well, maybe not, never did go for that naming crap after yourself thing. When I first started studying Geology, Plate Tectonics wasnt widely taught...even though Wagner ha...

Not a new theory, its probably at least 10 years old now but for numerous reasons hasnt received much publicity. Stephen Jay-Gould was a gifted scientist and writer with a knack of being able to explain some pretty complex scientific in a way that the layman can understand. He's written a truckload ...

You're right about one thing here bro and it is that there is a huge fossil record to choose our bones from, the only problem is, there is no evidence of transitional form, not just a missing link but a missing chain everywhere in the whole fossil record. Hey there Serge, Being a Geologist Im duty ...
