Re: Titebond Original glue

Hi Felix This slow set hard cure PVA may be an alternative to Original Titebond. It is Australian made and this particular supplier guarantees that the glue is fresh! I am using it on a current build. Give me a few years and I'll let you know how it goes   http://www.thewoodworks.com.au/sh...

re photo 3, " a spruce or cedar top thinned down to 1.5mm (1/3 of normal thickness)".
How many builders would normally make acoustics with soundboards 4.5mm thick?

If you are seriously thinking of replacing your rubber tyres with urethane tyres, try,:-
bandsawtirewarehouse.com
I was able to get blue urethane tyres for my trusty old Durden B1200. It now runs as well as it ever has.

Thanks for the detailed response Allen. I'll stick to doing binding and purfling on the edges, that gives me enough stress.

Re: Something I've been working on.

Lovely style and detail Allen. Two questions if I may, is the black white black inlay
a stock product or do you make it yourself and are the channels cut by CNC?

Re: Current Build - Falcate Braced Multiscale OM cutaway

Hi Mark
When you say your final brace dimensions were 5.4 x 20 am I correct in assuming that was
under the bridge area and from there you tapered the braces towards the ends?

Re: Current Build - Falcate Braced Multiscale OM cutaway

I have been following this post with particular interest as I have just finished my first falcate braced classical. Thank you Martin for sharing your experience and others for your constructive input. The T(1.1)2 on my finished guitar is less than ideal, 176 to be precise which is too low and close ...

Replacement sanding belts for Jet 16-32 drum sander

Would be interested to know where those members who have Jet 16-32s
source their sanding belts. Carbatec quoted me $22.00 per belt.

The book describes 141 of the most significant Australian rainforest

Hi Allen

Thank you for posting the video, just one question. Is the saw blade set at 90 deg,
or is the slope of the cut created by the peghead in the cross cut box?

Re: Need help bending snakewood binding

Hi V For what it is worth I made a bending strap using aluminium flashing. Bought the flashing from Bunnings, found it in the building materials section. Not very expensive, it comes in rolls 150 mm wide by 5 or so metres long which is more than you'll need. My strap is approx 300 mm long and I fold...

Re: Quiet in here

Not exactly lutherie but I have been making saw dust. I have just finished lining my metal garage to make it more habitable. I used 6mm brace stock as the lining board with earthwool insulation. The roof is also insulated. The rigid steel wall frames are aligned with the steel roof trusses so the ha...

Re: Another Macrocarpa (floorboard) Build

Thanks Rob and Paul. kp - I think Aust. red cedar is equal to and is a good alternative to Spanish cedar for the neck on a nylon string guitar, although it may not smell as nice to work with. The mechanical properties of both timbers are similar. See "Wood in Australia", by Bootle page 418. As in al...

Re: Another Macrocarpa (floorboard) Build

Hi Rob

I reinforced the neck with a 6 x 6 mm square ( with 3mm bore) carbon fibre rod.
The headstock has East Indian rosewood and maple veneer on top and a red cedar
veneer on the back side.
