Re: New Luthier Tips du Jour video - Accelerating break in

IF there really is such a thing as "breaking in" a guitar (I have seen enough personal, anecdotal "evidence" of guitars being quite stiff and relatively unresponsive at first, later being responsive), then it seems like this device (or ANYthing that would vibrate the top), would help. I can understa...

Re: Radical new design

Thanks for the follow-up answers to my questions, Nick. Interesting that I watched a dozen cajon videos, a few cajon-building videos, found some on-line plans, (thought I had) carefully visually examined the commercial ones - and never noticed the upper corners of the tapas being deliberately left l...

Re: Radical new design

Nice job, Nick! I bought a snare about a year ago, and still haven't gotten around to building the cajon yet. I came to the same conclusion on the angled shape, giving the wrists less of an angle to have to make in playing it. I saw a design (maybe on YooToob) that had the snares mounted on a rotata...

Re: My new hobby. First result

Those knives look nice, Nick! I'm not geared-up for any metalworking such as forging or cutting blanks out, so I just bought a bunch of "knives without handles" (semi-finished blanks), to try my hand at (what really amounts to) knife handle-making, and knife polishing. Kinda wimpy in comparis...

How high can the bar go? Have you even thought about everyone else feeling inadequate? Of course not!

Re: Santana 'Europa' cover - on ukulele

Thanks Dennis, I enjoyed the clip, but am left wondering if you want your uke to sound like a guitar why not just play a guitar????? Fits in airline overhead bin? But really, to me this just shown the breadth of the little instrument. (Shown best on a song concentrating on upper midrange and treble...

Re: More marketing magic?

Would it be fair to say, that the "improvement" in sound is noticeable mostly in trebles, less in mids, and that the Bridge Doctor" diminishes bass?

That's my logical guess.

Re: dying ebony fretboards

Maybe Kim and some others that have explored Australian timbers for fingerboards (or maybe the Spittle-man himself) and can tell you which local, non-endangered - or even threatened - wood, will make good fingerboards (Gidgee, etc), and then which ones of those will accept a stain. Re: Ebony Bindings

Just to add to the discussion (or add to "Crafty Fox's" reply) woods with a high tannin content can be "ebonized" with ferrous acetate (vinegar with dissolved iron from steel wool.) Surface applied, it only goes in maybe 1/128" to at best 1/64" inch, but it can be pushed deeper into the wood using v...

Well its not really printing a house, Its printing things like large lego blocks capable of making a house with, I cannot see how that could possibly be cheaper or more time saving to justify the machine required to do the job, Personally I think its just a novelty thing. Paul, Why oh why didn't you follow instructions? Instead of sending him a picture of the missing pin, you sent a picture of the existing 5 pins. You will confuse him - he will now think he has finally found the "black hole" of missing pins. Just like the socks that disappear in the washer or dryer: ...
