blackwood

Post by jmuller92 » Wed May 13, 2009 8:15 pm

Hey guys, im after a nice simple couple of tassie blackwood veneer pieces for my headstock. I think ill glue the first piece down, and then with the second carve it using the same idea as the cole clark headstocks.

No decent timber lying around the school workshop unless i want a radiata pine veneer :-P Hoping not to be paying anything outlandish.

cheers
jake

Why not use some of that Koa that Dave Hurd sent through to you?

To most people it would be indistinguishable from Blackwood.

Yeh ive had a look, the koa is more of a reddy tinge, not sure if it looks out of place. Was just thinking id play safe with this one and use the beautiful koa on a future project :)

I got a piece of blackwood veneer for a headstock from guitaraust.com.au
I don't think they carry much stock - I got the only one when I ordered earlier in the year - guess they might have more now.
cheers,
PJ

Nasty old Gunns market a veneer sample pack thats quite good value. It has a selection of Aussie woods that Ive found useful for doing headstocks on my classicals.

I was unaware of this supplier - close to home and handy for occasional single purchases - thanks for the link.
