Water stain

Post by Dekka » Fri Dec 28, 2012 7:31 am

Hi. Can anyone advise me how to remove a water stain from a western red cedar top? Google tells me everything from a hot iron to mayonnaise but I trust you guys more than google. It has been there a while by the look of it.

Oxalic acid solution will get a lot of different types of stain out of a lot of different types of woods. So give that a try on an off-cut and see what happens. Wash the stuff off with pure water or mildly acidic water (add a bit of white vinegar).

If CA has wicked into the end grain, it's there to stay.

Mayonaise? So what's going to get rid of the oil stain left by that.

If it's the green translucency, no. It means the CA has soaked through.

If it's the yellow stains that sometimes happen with the fumes, maybe. Only one way to find out...

Paint shops will usually have it. Bunnings is most likely to stock it. Pretty common product.
