Rose Maple. ??????

Post by soulman » Thu Feb 20, 2014 2:36 pm

I have been given some planks of timber. Looks to have been cut professionally with bandsaw. It has Rose Maple written on it. I haven't been able to find out much about it on line. Anyone have any information on it. Thanks Ross

Buy yourself a book called Wood in Australia by Keith R Bootle.

It's listed in there. Similar specs to sugar maple from memory, I've never worked with it personally. I'm not at home to direct quote the book.

Rose maple in an unusual one , likely I'd place it as one of the Cryptocaryas , the genus of Pigeonberry Ash . Most are blonde or pinkish brown and slightly aromatic . Cryptocarya erythroxylon would be the best chance I reckon .

Will have to check that book out thanks Allan.
Thanks Curly. It has the aroma. I have finish sanded a section with 320grit. and sprayed some pressure pack shellac.
Here's a couple of photo's. These are the same piece just taken inside shed, the other (pinker) outside.
