Not much action from me of late

Post by kiwigeo » Tue Jan 06, 2009 7:59 pm

Back at work here after my two weeks in between hitches. Had to spend most of the time in NZ dealing with family issues. Over that period I think I got into the workshop once and then only to spend 5 minutes staring glimly at the piles of tonewood overflowing from the shelves onto my benches.

On the bench is the 12 string is currently waiting on some fine tuning (neck needs taking down a bit), the ever present trouble classical which has had its back replaced three times (failed finish probably due to silicon contamination) and another classical still on the workboard waiting on its back.

With work cranking up for most of this year it doesnt look like there'll be much happening in the shop. If the oilfield goes like it always does during recessions things will quieten down late in the year and Ill get a chance to get back to it in the shop.

Cheers Martin

Cheer up mate,

Sure there is better places to be than out on a rig, but someone needs to keep Tim, Steve and BobC in a job and besides, with all that time to think your sure to come up with some great ideas of how to use some of that fantastic wood in your stash and maybe even a way to tackle the finish on that classic problem child. :D

Keep well my friend 8)

Hi Martin
I know the feeling of not getting things one loves to do, done. I can't imagine not being in the workshop. I remember last year one of the members suggested [in answer to a comment of mine about a lack of time] that "Taffy you got to make time".

So as of December 18th '08 I decided to make time, I gave 4 weeks notice at my day job so as to focus on guitars/music full time. With a bit of back up from Centrelink I feel it will be a good move. I put a lot of thought onto it first, and knew it would mean lifestyle changes but as my wife keeps telling me "your a long time dead, so do it now".

I thought it would mean that I would no longer have to work evenings to get the work done, but find I'm in the workshop most of the day and evenings too.
But the pressure is off now and I'm looking at building in a different light now, [ I don't meen daylight] and all the projects I've put off and the books and articals I did not read properly over the years, are getting a second look. To be honest in many cases its a first look. I have a son in Adelaide who I will be visiting early '09, If you are in town would love to touch base.

Say Martin, I'm riding my motorcycle to Melbourne then catching a flight to the Perth with Bob, for the Playmakers event. Then flying back to Melbourne, and I was going to ride over to Adelaide to catch up with friends. If you're in town I'd love to have a chance for a visit as well.

I'm back in Melbourne for March 5th, so will be heading Adelaide way after that. Tentatively around March 7th through 10th. I have to be back for work in Cairns by March 23 and it's going to be a hell of a long ride home.

Allen, I can send you some evergreen branches of your choice and you can stand in the shower with them. That should remind you of home right now. Its been dumping for the past 3 days with a couple of days of "normal" rain before hand. Rivers are supposed to crest today. Flooding abounds. I'm starting to think that the Pineapple Express isn't such a good think after all.

We were looking at the photo's of down town Victoria yesterday, and it's looking a bit like the flooding were getting in the outback right now. I'm not missing the cold relentless rain and drizzle of the west coast winters.

Never mind me, I'm pretty sure that will cure Martin of wanting to go on any Spruce holidays.
