G'day guys.
I punched this one out at the end of October but hadn't got off my bum
to post pics, so here we go.

Dual-carved top from light-Figured tassie myrtle (Thanks Tim !!!)
Qld maple set neck with centre lamination of Ironwood.
Chambered Qld maple body
Wandoo fretboard and paua inlay at the 12th
The rest is there to see.

DAMN 8)

Have you stained or tinted the finish over the Qld. Maple? Looks to be almost a light Mahogany color at this end.

Wow, Stu that is beautiful.

Why is it chambered?, it looks pretty chunky so I can see the need to reduce weight but apart from that I dont see an acoustic advantage

Thanks fellas.

Seb, the chambering is purely for weight and to even up the balance a little.
Here's a chambered pic. below just prior to glueing in the black/white accents. They then get sandwiched between body and top.

Allen, the only part with colour introduced into the nitro are for the top's burst. Anything with Qld maple is straight nitro clear.
BTW I use Wattyl stylwood precat nitro for my builds but I am curious to try mirotone. No problems at all with the wattyl though, just curious to try out what most others use.

cheers, Stu

And a pic. just prior to spraying. No burst !!!

Thanks for your thoughts, fellas.

The 4+2 headstock is a bit of a polarising design as you either hate it or you think it's 'different'. I'm not sure whether it holds merit in keeping it as an alternative shape to my current 6 in line and 3+3 shapes.
Oh well, no harm in adventure :)

Pickups currently in this one are Golden Age traditional humbuckers.
around 8.0k ohms and a great fit.

I want to use more pick-ups from Mick Brierley from Brierley pickups
in Adelaide. Keeping the dollars local is a good thing, especially if their product wipes the floor with other alternatives. And his service is top notch too.
One of the the next few commissions will have Mick's pups in it and I must admit it's going to be a cracking build to get into
(Tiger myrtle Carvetop, Blackwood body with a little purpleheart thrown in the mix  ).!! Can hardly wait.

Cheers, Stu

Thanks Lillian.

I like the aesthetics used in acoustic bindings, purflings and the like but try to bring a little of that vibe to electrics if I can. ......Mabo..... :)

To be honest I've got a heap of Aussie acoustic sets sitting here ready for building but I find the longer I hold off the more I end up shitting myself at the prospect of stuffing them up.

Maybe time to dip the toe in.......................

Come on Stu, it's just wood.

A fellow with your talent is going to revel in the challenges of working on a acoustic.
