Guess the wood?
Hi All
While newbie ANZLF member Peter Young is in training to do his own posts he asked if I could put these couple of pics up to see if anyone can figure out what he's used for the Back & Sides in his latest creation:
Replies to this thread are welcomed, or if you want to contact Pete about anything you can access his private email via his Great Southern Lutherie page.
Nine more sleeps till Playmakers!
Cheers

Talking about guessing I have some wood that I am fairly sure comes from the U.S.A. it came along with some cherry that i bought as a small lot of offcuts and wonder if anyone might recognize it.
The top is backsaw the bottom quarter, the pic is in daylight and wood is dry exept for the drop of sweat.

Ok thanks very much. Obviously you wouldn't risk loosing your mashed potatoes.
So the other wood in the pile is red oak. the guy who sold it to me said the red oak was the cherry and i just though .....oh its looks alot like oak . Now I'm sorted out I'll just have to work out what to use it for.

John, shall I PM you with my address? I believe the standard prize package for a correct guess on the ANZLF is either a high-grade B&S set, or dried dingo dung - your choice.John FM wrote:Well done, Dennis ... Tassie Bluegum it isDennis Leahy wrote: Eucalyptus globulus?

The figure in the guitar and the overall execution are so dazzling that it is hard to pull my eyes off the images to read the words. So, it's not surprising that it didn't sink in that this is not John's guitar, but Pete's.
Now, that's a different story altogether. So, I checked the ANZLF Rules For Guessing Contests 2009 handbook, and found this on page 327, subchapter D Bloody Fair Dinkum Prize Allocation, in paragraph 9 : "If a bloke or a sheila asks a mate to display images for them, then the winning guesser is allowed to choose his or her own prize from among the following: 1.) one kilogram of dried dingo dung; 2.) a "sleepover" with Miranda Kerr; 3.) the actual object in the contest images
Well, my personal collection of dingo dung is completely full - not another millimeter of space in the display case. A night with Miranda Kerr sounds lovely, but the next day my wife would force me at gunpoint to eat my own genitalia and my entire collection of dingo dung, before executing me. So, the only intelligent choice is to select the guitar itself as the prize.
Pete, please contact Jim and see if we can get a deal on that case. Pack the guitar very carefully, please, and ship directly to me. I'll PM my address.
Thanks!
Dennis
