Runn3r that is some beautiful wood there and fine workmanship! I have a set of Coco to suit a small body acoustic myself. Beautiful stuff asceticaly and great tone.
As far as i'm concerned musical instrument building covers solid body and acoustic instruments.
Thanks for sharing your build.
Cheers
Alan

Amen, Alan. I'm hoping some harpsichord builders will join the site, and raise the bar to totally new heights.ozziebluesman wrote:

Anyway, Michael, nice guitar! How does the weight of that neck feel after a couple of sets?
Steve
There are some great woods, down under!
Thanks Steve
guitar is around 8 lbs ...neck is not overly heavy though heavier than typical maple neck...
to me it's like a lightish les paul (the completely solid ones ...not the hollowed out ones)
the balance, more importantly, is good...
the ash body also contributes to the weight though i routed quite a lot of wood out of it a looong time ago

Thanks Michael.

This would suggest that it is a forum for makers of stringed instruments but I don't think it includes tennis rackets.

That's some really beautiful work there Michael. Thanks for posting. Please don't hesitate to show us your work. We don't want to make anyone feel that they shouldn't be proud to show off their creations.
Also, if you go into your profile, you can set a signature that includes your name, so you don't need to add it to the end of each post. With so many new members, it's getting pretty difficult for some of us who've suffered some self inflicted brain damage to remember everyones name.

Thanks Allen and Kim
tassie oak is one of my fave aussie woods ...purely for figure and appropriate density for solid body instrumentation ...
as for coco piece...
the ebay seller is a private individual who sells wood turning blanks with occasional longer/wider pieces than typical pen blanks and the like
there was a phase when he had pieces sized perfectly for bolt on guitar necks...got me some cocobolo, some pau ferro, indian r/w, maccassar eb in this manner
i tend to avoid 'luthiery' type sites/sellers cos they tend to 'front load' the premiums on their woods but if they have nice pieces i will still pay the premium ...
as it is ...i am already suspicious of 'shipping charges' being taken advantage of as a 'padding' for the typical ebay seller but i dont mind this sort of thing if the item price is reasonable...
