Cool forum!

Post by pat foster » Tue Apr 14, 2009 10:28 am

Hello, ANZLF,

I just joined, having been clued in by a well-known poster on another forum. (Speak up if you like!) I see quite a few familiar names here from some of the other sandboxes. Good vibes here!

Pat

edit:
Hmmm. Pallet wood eh? Well I'll have to work on that!

Welcome Pat, I'm fairly loose & like to get around abit. This forum is still the best though :) Nobody takes themselves too seriously (I hope!) but are willing to help a fellow axemaker out in times of strife, there's also some clever people here that invent lovely things like jigs that they are willing to share with the rest of us plebs. Hope you enjoy the forum as much as I do.

Welcome Pat. I am probably the culprit. I mentioned that some of our favorite people hang out here.

Welcome, Pat. Hanging out with this crowd is a lot like the early days of the OLF. Still small enough to be a fraternity (and an occasional, much welcome, gal). It is growing quite rapidly, though. (and these guys don't hold the reins too tight!) :D

Hey Pat, good to see you show up here. This place is really getting to be such a great place to hang out, that I'm rarely looking elsewhere. Feel free to say what's on your mind.

Better watch out for Kim though. He's been known to vent his spleen on the odd occasion.

That's why we love you Kim. It's a sad day when I don't get a chance for a good belly laugh at your way with words.

Wow. This is great. Thanks, everybody! You know how to make to new guy feel welcome.

One observation... uhh, the sheep in the avatars? Do they have some special significance?

It really is good to see the familiar folks here. Glad I found you all, and I'm looking forward to getting to know those new to me.

Hesh, since you seemed to have disappeared from the other forums, I knew you had to be out there somewhere posting!

Pat

P.S. Waddy, thanks for cluing me in!

The affinity to sheep is not a mystery, if you hang around here long enough, or bother to read the archives! :toi

And, Ron, thanks, I figured if I am an Emu, I should look like one.

Now that I have a bit more time.

Ron,
Great to see you here. Your absence at the OLF left quite a void. It really does seem like the good ol' days at OLF.

Lillian, Kim, Craig, Allen,
Good to see you OLF old-timers here too.

Kiwigeo,
Thanks. I found that if you stretch wire strings across those funny-shaped boxes, you get a nice sound sometimes.

Taffy, Bob, Nicko, toejam, thanks.

So far, looks like a pretty free-wheeling place. I like that. Well, back to work.

Pat

Hi Pat!

Yes, these blokes even let me in! Well, one time I found the door locked right after I left, but I was able to sneak back in an open window.

Yes, each of the forums has a personality, and each of the forums have several really extremely experienced luthiers (you can tell by the number of barnacles on their bums, so you don't have to slice 'em and count the rings.) The personality of this place is great - lots of laughter, teasing, and camaraderie, and some of the most gifted luthiers and creative jig makers to be found anywhere hang out here.

I'm honored to be among these folks, and hope they don't change the locks again. I promise not to touch the sheep ever again!

Dennis

Yep... welcome Pat. I'm in a few forums covering everything from conservation advocacy to furniture restoration and this is by far the best I've ever been involved with. There's a great bunch of fun skilled people to draw on and it doesn't seem to have the issues of condescending attitude and "my way is the best way" that seem to contaminate many other forums.

I'm sure you'll enjoy your time here, just take care if you're reading posts while french polishing a guitar on automatic, the tears of laughter can stuff up the finish (well it was really sweat, but if I hadn't been so engrossed in reading I would have noticed before it dripped).

Cheers
James
