Power tool sources?

Post by Rick Turner » Wed Jul 08, 2009 9:07 am

From where do you Aussie folks buy your power tools...table saw, band saw, drill press, drum sander, etc.? I'm about to start piecing together some of said such in a shed outside of Hobart...

Carbatec are as good as it gets most of the time for big power tools. They have a shop in Launceston, but they can deliver anywhere

Not the cheapest necessarily, but not the most expensive either.

Might be worthwhile asking on the woodwork forum http://www.woodworkforums.com/index.php
for stores in Hobart. With the number of woodworkers about you would expect there would be someone selling equipment

cheers

Rick, as Graham McDonald said, Carbatec in Launceston are fine as long as what you are looking for is the typical reasonable quality Taiwanese machinery, rather than the higher end stuff. Specialised Joinery Supplies at 43 Burnett St., North Hobart carry a selection of Carbatec labelled machinery, and can get any of the Carbatec equipment in for you at the Carbatec price, I believe (i.e. no additional freight costs).

Rick

These blokes are where I get Jet machinery, but they are in Melbourne. They could certainly get it across to Tasmania if required.

It'd be a cut above the Carbatec branded equipment but with a corresponding price increase as you would be aware.

The worst part of it all now Rick is seeing how much we've got to pay for shipping. and the limited choice we've got here. The upside is that the wood is pretty nice.
