My Second Guitar

Post by Ricardo » Fri Jul 10, 2009 7:04 pm

In 1976 I was fortunate enough to live in Argentina where i was introduced to the guitar, My Father who was passionate about music had a guitar made for me by Jose Yacopi (a famouse Argentine Luthier) This is where the seed was planted and has been growing ever since. What you see in the images is a reult of the past 33 years of having a desire to build guitars. This is my number 2 that is ready to install the neck. I am really happy with the work to date and having played guitar for the last 33 years i am hoping it will play well. Just thought i would share that with all.

Hope you enjoy

Nice job Ricardo, and beautiful wood!
What is the back wood?

Allen

The soundboard is Swiss Spruce with (Some Bear Claw) the back and sides tassie blackwood, bindings are flamed maple, i braced the back with mahogany. The rossette is heringbone and Paua shell (not sure on the spelling there) the neck (not shown) is brazilian mahogany with a laminate of silky oak. fretboard is macassar ebony with ebony bindings (pic of unfinished board attached), i have not yet done a head vener for the guitar, still trying to figure out what i will use.

Nice looking work there Ricardo, should be an absolute stunner when you've finished it :cl :cl
Mind you, there's far too much curl in that Blackwood! Good guitars should be made from straight, plain grained woods in order to achieve maximum structural stiffness

Thought i would share some images of the progress of this guitar. I am hoping to have it complete in 2 weeks, just in time to visit some old jamming mates in Canberra.

I Still have to do the logo on the head stock, a bit of work on the bridge and neck, and also some detailing on the frett boatd
