Sharpening Bench

Post by Craig » Thu Nov 08, 2007 3:55 pm

I have found it useful to have a dedicated sharpening area in my workshop . This encourages me to keep my edges keen ,even whilst in the middle of an operation , rather than have to clear an area and interupt my process.

I use the 'Scary Sharp ' method ( glass plate )

I bet you can't tell what I made this bench from

Nice bench Craig, talk about ingenuity, i'll bet that you are getting sharp notes out of it too! :D

Say bro, what did you do with the piano wood, was it useful somehow? Were you able to use it for guitar making?

What about the keys? Any old ivory on them?

And yes, I really like the bench :)

G'day Serge,
I have hung on to all the wood I have salvaged from not only this piano but others as well . Some of it will make great brace wood. The action and keys are usually made from Swiss Pine on these type of German pianos . Being seasoned for well over a hundred years , it should be good stuff , not to mention their soundboards.

G'day Allen,

Well , some of the Ivory went here as the purfling you see ( neck and bridge

I love that inlay, Craig, very nice. The bench is a wonderful example of recycling.

Cool bench you made there Craig! That's a good idea to have a dedicated bench for sharpening.
I need to find an area for this in my shop . Nice ivory inlay too!

Now that's what I call intelligent recycling.
