Another Binding Jig

Post by Bob Connor » Thu Nov 08, 2007 10:19 pm

After seeing Grants ingenuity and Craigs flawless jig making skills I thought I'd show you what lazy buggers Dave and I are.

We bought one of the Stewmac binding jigs.

When it first arrived it was unusable due to a lot of play in the rollers on the support stand. We fixed it with some washers and emailed Stewmac about it.

To their credit about a month later a new set of re-engineered rollers arrived in the mail unannounced. :cl

It makes the job extremely simple with very little chance for error.

Them white plastic rollers are the offending items. We're still using the originals and have kept the new ones as spares.

Even an eejit like me can use it.

This was the day we got it so we were both keen to have a lash at it.

I seem to remember that you have a very nice set of Tiger Myrtle tucked away in your stash Craig.

Might be time to get cracking on THE BEAST.

Bob, what's the depth of that geetar? That thing looks really thick, especially on the neck end.

Must be the camera angle Ron it's 4" at the neck end.

Lillian, the upright of the jig would be no more than an inch and a half wide.

I know where you are coming from. When we first took it out of the box we didn't think it would be too stable either. But it surprised us and is quite stable enough to do the job.

Thanks Bob. I was having a hard time judging its width from Stew Mac's pictures.

There is a seller on Ebay that has aluminum extrusion that might work for a knock off of the jig. Just thinking and plotting.
