storing of glued tops/backs

Hi everyone,

I have had to give up my spare bedroom (workroom) where I had my de-humidifier, go-bar-deck etc.
I have a soundboard that I glued (no bracing) in preparation for my next build.
Would it be OK to store this soundboard in another room of the house, garage or work-shed?
All of my other wood stock is stored in the laundry on top of the cupboard.

It looks like I will need to build a dedicated workroom within my garage.

Hey Wayne,

No bracing, no problem. The issues with relative humidity in lutherie only begin once we break the cardinal rule of wood working by restricting cross grain expansion and contraction when we glue on the necessary braces. Just remember that RH need to be stable and moderate when that time comes so you may need to give your wood a week or two at <50% once you are right to go.

This may be helpful too Wayne. I store my unbraced backs and tops between two pieces of 40mm bench top particle board. Its flat and heavy and is good for keeping them in pristine condition. I glue up and sand to near thickness and then put them between these two heavy square boards. They are easy to get as they come from new houses when they cut the recess for the sink so you should be able to score them for nothing.

Heres what I have always done, works well for me. The cases hold plates snickered or not, if they are braced they are clamped to a simple form of the correct radius. And when stable they hang as shown, before work begins. When I start working the timber they stay in my controlled work shop, and back in the case between stages, as I build slowly. Not shown , but I have a hygrometer in the case that I can view through the plastic lid.
