Lillipilli?

Post by matthew » Sat Dec 08, 2007 1:13 pm

A friend of mine in Sydney is a tree lopper.

He says he has to cut a large lillipilli down next week.

What's Lillipilli like as a timber??

Hi Matthew,

Here are some specs:

Acmena smithii Satinash, Lillipilli
700 kg/cubic metre
interlocked grain
pinkish gray to pale brown

The diameter of the tree will be the first issue check. To get good section you would need at leasta 2 - 3 foot diameter. Assuming you have a chainsaw or a small mill you should aim to saw 1" - 2" quartered section, seal the ends and rack it out. Possibly cut a thinner section that will dry quicker so that you can see what tap tone it has.

regards

Tim
