BRW OM "JJ" Finished (Pictures)

Post by Hesh1956 » Sun Dec 09, 2007 12:16 pm

It's finished!

This past week I finished my 14th guitar a BRW OM which I have decided to name after my dear friend JJ.

This is the second guitar in a series of 2 OMs which are for all intensive purposes built identically. The only difference is the choice of woods with the first one being Carpathian/Koa and this one BRW/Adi. Both guitars are just under 4 pounds.

The design concept for this one was to only use three woods, very nice woods, for the entire guitar. I wanted to pay homage to the great guitars of the past by using BRW, Adirondack spruce, and Honduran mahogany. In addition I wanted this guitar to look like it was dipped in BRW (no jokes please.....).

Credits:

BRW - back/sides, rosette, bridge blank, head plate - Brad Goodman
BRW - bindings - Allied
BRW 3 degree, non-slotted custom bridge pins - Louis
Adirondak Spruce top - Allied
3 piece Honduran mahogany neck - Sir John Watson
Finish - Tony Ferguson

I have been waiting for a sunny day here in frigid Michigan to take these photos and it is just not going to happen for me...... It's gray again today so I did the best I could under the circumstances.....

To preempt requests for sound clips - I have none but as always will post sound clips when and if I get a decent player over here who agrees to be recorded. Promise!

Hesh,

When I find the clappy icon thingys Ill put some up. Classic looking guitars mate. I really like the laminated neck and the interest that adds to the loud, loud timber. beautiful. I look forward to the sound clip when you get it together. BTW there are some good guitarists in Aus you know....

A very, very tasty montage of timber in this one. :cl :cl :cl :cl :cl

Hey, can't you build a crappy one so the rest of us won't feel so inadequate.

Well, being built identical except for wood, which one do you prefer? Is there a noticeable difference in tone?

Yep a red letter day Hesh, beautiful stuff mate and it would be difficult to chose which one to play first.

Come to think of it, that is a very shrewd security system you have set up there m8. Picture this:

Thief breaks in to Hesh's condo and is confronted with a wall of beautiful instruments.

Thief soon realises that he can only carry a couple of them at most and still manage to make a get away.

Thief is relived to be caught and led away in cuffs some hours later were he is found still standing in front of said wall of beautiful guitars with a perplexed look upon his face and anguish in his voice as he repeats over and over, "which two...which two!"

Cheers Heshter, well done my friend. :D

Hesh, JJ said some awfully nice things about this one on the other forum. I would really love to have a sound clips of your guitars. I think that it would be really cool to have sound clip and sound board bracing montage. It would be a cool way to see/hear how your guitars have evolved.

Now that you've raised the bar so high, what's next?

Thanks folks for the very kind comments - are you all feeling OK??? :D

I will tell you that I am enjoying this guitar more then all the other previous guitars. It's very fun to play and even my playing sounds better on it.

Here are some shots of my high-tech security system. Although it has a rather high carbon foot print, more so in the evenings......, it is sure to keep intruders at bay..... :D

Man, among all the guitars that you have built, this one has got to be one of if not your favorite, i keep coming back to this thread to see it bro, now you've just raised that bar very high for yourself and for all of us, i'd want to say that i hate you but i can't so i'll just file a complaint to your govt for bad treatment towards Sony, HA! :D

Hey Serge my friend filing a complaint to my government is funny.....

Tell them that I am Bin Lauden that way I know that they will never find me.......

This is my 4th OLF OM and I did one Antes OM too. So this guy came from the very same mold as yours Serge and that is why it has great karma!!!

Hesh,
This is my favorite Heshtone to date. Subtle beauty that I find pleasing.
I have come to expect this quality of design and work from you, so no surprise there. But I still find myself needing to say, impressive!

OK, OK! Not bad......for an amateur, that is.

Under 4 pounds? Sheesh, my neck probably weighs close to 4 pounds! How did you keep the weight so low? I mean, I have seen the lightly braced tops, but that's just a few grams, maybe an ounce savings. Are the neck and tail blocks made of helium balloons? Hollow neck, filled with carbon fiber?

Come on, out with it! How did you keep the weight so low!?
