HHG 192 Order

Post by vandenboom » Sun Dec 05, 2010 9:47 pm

I want to get some 192 HHG (High Clarity) from Tools for Woodworking in US.
As has been highlighted before, main issue is shipping cost.
Glue cost : $32 for 5lb
Shipping cost : $43!!! (5 to 20lb) http://www.usps.com/prices/priority-mai ... prices.htm

If I can find 2 other Melbourne builders who want 5lb of this stuff and the 3 packages fall within the size limit, we might be able to share the shipping cost. I have asked the supplier if this is do-able?

Anyone interested if it comes off?

I would be interested but live on the other "edge" of the globe...

Are you sure? This is what USPS charges. To be sure what toolsforworkingwood.com charges, put some (5lb, 10lb, 20lb) HHG in the basket and begin with the checkout procedure. You'll be surprised... :(

Yes, that's the price for shipping. My last 5 lb order came in at about $70 all up.

Frank was giving an international flat rate box price from the US to Oz. Flat rate boxes top out at 20 lbs. After that you start paying weight, which may or may not be cheaper.

You should be aware that there have been a couple of HHG orders confiscated at customs recently. I sure hope these ones get through because I'd like some of there high strength glue. Only have a part of 1 lb and I'd like to get at least 5 lbs more.

I had a pound of high strength stuff come through 6 weeks ago.

the box had a sticker "opened by aust post for inspection by customs"

the glue was still there when I got it.

I have just bought some 192g from an eBay seller in the States. His store is called ""anothercraftstore" and I asked how much they were able to get into a 4lb flat rate international box which costs US$ 13.95 and they said 3 Pounds, so I though that was alright and bought their 3 Pound bulk deal for $26.95. So the total all up for 3lb of 192 g HHG was $42 AUD.

Perhaps this information could be of assistance to other members who might want to get some. The 4lb flat rate box is a lot cheaper than the 5 to 20lb one although they could only get 3 lb of HHG into it.

Cheers

John

Hi John - that probably is useful for us to know. It is probably a more sensible quantity for hobbyist output levels too.
I ended up getting 15 lb for about US$140 (from www.toolsforworkingwood.com in Brooklyn)and splitting 3 ways with Rocket and Bob. A bit more value for money, but requires a bit more coordination.

As others highlighted earlier, if you order this product directly on line, you pay rediculous shipping costs. I dealt directly with one of the sales people. They confirmed that 15 bags would fit in the US$44 flat box. I then had to phone their sales people, place the order over the phone and make it very, very, very clear how it was to be shipped. They then had to make adjustments to the invoice to override the standard shipping costs. But they were very helpful and prepared to do it.

Good Frank, I am glad it worked out for you well. Yes, I know the feeling of having to explain to salespeople what we (luthiers) are on about... :D

For the record, goods arrived today, but were intercepted and checked by customs/quarantine. Nothing removed or damaged.

Customs usually like getting stuck into glue orders.

My glue through the above source arrived today, I was well pleased with it. It is the 192 high clarity stuff too. I dont think that I will be reordering for a very long time. :D Currently I only use HHG for the bridge and fingerboard extension but I hope to make a full instrument with it sometime in the future.
