Jim's work is sensational.

Did he give you any of his impressions of the Tiger as a tonewood Tim.

I wonder what sort of a price tag he's got on that one.

I know it's a "factory" guitar, but Jim Olson's mini-factory sure does produce some awesome looking guitars. Look at the detail in that headstock and rosette!

Nice set of Tiger Myrtle, Tim!

I am not sure about the price tag but I do know that it was presold.
I will ask Jim where he thinks Tiger Myrtle fits in the tone range.

I don't know that Jim is going to say about the tone category of Tiger but I will now put it right up there with BRW. My black L-OO is finally opening up and it is clear to me that with an Adi top it would sound very much like my BRW OM.

Jim is really not IMHO a factory. There is still great personal attention to every guitar by Jim himself he just has developed methods and the assistance needed to produce around 65 per year.

Jim has something else going for him. He was really the first luthier in my view who gained great acceptance for producing guitars that make ALL factory guitars pale in comparison. I played, for over an hour, and Olsen and man did it sing. They are a little heavy for my liking but tonally they are superb.

When I think of the Taylor tune "Sweet Baby James" I doubt that James had Jim in mind but he would deserve this title for his superb guitars.......

I used Olsen in decent, not perfect shape, goes currently in the US with a suppressed disposable income atmosphere for around $10K US paddy water dollars.

Beautiful, beautiful guitar, the workmanship looks extrodinary. I believe the term porn is warranted. From the look of the Tiger Myrtle it will be in high demand Tim,

I'll buy one of Jim's tshirts just because....

Tiger Myrtle guitar by Jim Olsen

What a stunner!

I was lucky enough to play an Olsen guitar when I was performing in Hong Kong a couple of years ago and it's kinda like a wine that you never forget - it had a 'flavour' that I've not experienced on any other guitar, and I've plucked a few! It was an instrument that I could not find fault with - perfection. You'll appreciate that once you start building instruments you become much more critical of what's available in the shops and much more appreciative of really good instruments - this was a REALLY good instrument and a total inspiration - something to aspire to.

Thanks for putting these photos up here. I'll be looking at them and dreaming from time to time.

Well Dave I think he has done an amazing job. I am hoping that Jim will complete a Birdseye Sheoak Guitar some time next year. So stay tuned!

Tim

Tim! Please put my Birdseye Sheoak back on my pile! Someone's going to think it is for sale!

Oh, and I should have put a smiley face next to my comment about Jim Olson's "factory", because I know he uses a lot of CNC (like the Fadal) and jigs to produce extremely nice guitars - far beyond the typical "factory" guitar. It was a tongue in cheek comment.
