Any Gold Coast Luthiers?

Post by TrueAxe » Tue May 10, 2011 2:49 am

Hey Australia/New Zealand Luthiers,

My name is Adam Truax and I will be moving to Australia's Gold Coast in July. I have recently taken up making guitars and have currently completed 2 guitars and soon to be finished 6 more within the month.

I am moving to pursue my masters at Griffith University but I still want to stay active in making guitars as I have fallen in love with the art and craftsmanship of it.

My request to the forum is finding a luthier in the Gold Coast area that I could share a workspace with or apprentice with to stay active in my persuits of this trade while I study. If you happen to be one of these people I am looking for I would love for you to see my work here at http://www.TrueAxeGuitars.ca

So hopefully you guys can help me find someone as I don't want to just drop this newfound love. Know anyone around?

Thanks for the help it is much appreciated! :D

Welcome to the forum Adam.

I'm a fair bit further up the coast. About 2 days drive in fact but if you get to stop in Cairns you're welcome to a shed tour. We can talk hockey and instruments.

Welcome to the forum Adam. Love your work. I'm 5 hours SSW of the Gold Coast.
May I be the fist to say that Truax is a fantastic name for a luthier.
I may have to change my name to Dodgey Uke. :gui

Yea I was planning on hitting up Cairns at least once while I was down there. I will take you up on the offer as there might not be many people to talk Hockey with :cl

Hi Adam,

I wouldn't call myself a luthier (yet). But I am just finishing off my little workshop in my shed and making a start on the journey of building my first guitar. Once I get going I would love it if you came over for a chat and possibly offered some advice. I don't live to far from Griffith either.

Hi, I'm on the Goldie but I aint no luthier. Hopefully one day when more time is available. There is a Luthier on Mt. Tamborine (Gold Coast hinterland). Haven't visited him but he is often in the local paper and runs guitar building courses on a regular basis.

Cheers, Will

There is a Luthier on Mt. Tamborine (Gold Coast hinterland).
That would be the Hancock family.
Don't know how receptive they would be to sharing their workspace, other than doing one of their courses.
